Auberge L'Intendant
Located in Quebec’s Historic Old Quarter, this bed and breakfast is a 15-minute walk from La Citadelle de Québec. All of the rooms have private bathrooms and free Wi-Fi. Each room at Quebec City L’intendant is uniquely decorated and air conditioned.

The place was handy and there is a parking lot just around the corner. My room was great and the owner has a good sense of humor. Oh, and the breakfast was nice as well.

Health and Safety concerns
Sighting the train station from the L’Intendant’s sidewalk suggests the B&B’s ideal location. However, my three-night experience included: being shouted at by James (proprietor? – only staff person seen during stay). 1st time: returning to attempt check-in at 3:30 “Go away. I told you four o’clock.” Stubbornly I waited him out, sitting in the lobby cum dining area. 2nd: placing lacy panties (found beside the bed) on the counter: “Just throw them out. I’m not your slave!”
Health and Safety concerns also influenced my assessment. Room door’s retrofitted outer keypad provided access but did not allow locking from the inside. A solo female, with neither peephole nor a swing bar/latch sliding bolt locking option, wedged a chair. 07/23 was the last time the hall fire extinguisher was inspected. Posted D’Inspection certificate #391 was last dated Juillet 2023.
Both bar and kitchen access was cluttered with cleaning equipment and non-food serving related paraphernalia. James dismissed the black hair in my breakfast fruit bowl as not his. We both have matching grey hair. My ‘Superior’ Duschesneau room bedding and lamp fixtures were worn and antiquated.
Though third week in April may be considered a tourist ‘shoulder’ season, I and a family of five were the only guests. Peeling front door decals indicate 2014 was the last Office du Tourisme de Quebec’s recognition of the hotel’s excellence. Hopefully a phoenix will rise from the ashes.

Suggest reading other reviews before booking. The hotel is very convenient for the rail station and 10 minutes walk to Upper Quebec centre; 15 mins to Place Royale. It is definitely a "one-off" as hotels go these days. A bit like walking into a 1960s house with some furniture from the 1950s. No lift and steep stairs. Can't comment on what each room is like - we had the king bedroom. The bed was comfortable, sheets clean and a number of towels provided. There was a double jacuzzi style tub on a podium but we only used the shower above (very good). The toilet is like a cupboard built into the room (but no roof). Large TV provided but didn't use. No daily cleaning. Kettle and cups provided when requested.
Breakfast was very good, though the same each day.
The manager is also a one-off character. I can see why some folk felt a little uneasy or threatened but he came across to us as someone who likes to have some fun (on his terms) with guests. We went along with it got to enjoy our interactions and found him helpful. He has a good knowledge of old Quebec and wanted to share this with us. So if you are looking for the usual modern hotel, don't think this is for you but if you are looking for a reasonably priced place for somewhere to put your head down for a night or two, then it is worth considering

Fresh breakfast, but aside from. Fruit and yogurt, was just served carbs.

The room and linen did not seem or smell like they were clean. The breakfast area could be cleaner and more organized as well. The space and location are great but the service and customer experience need some improvement
