This family-run, pet-free, non-smoking hotel is located in a quiet location on the outskirts of the city in the state-approved resort of Barth. It is about 14 km to the Baltic Sea beach.

Almost everything I could want !
With the exception of the irritating,hesitant,Internet access, this well-run small hotel provides all that I would expect.
The location,in wooded surroundings just south of the town,is very pleasant,and silent at night.Barth airport is within a longish walking distance.A hire car (Autohaus Blunck will deliver to the airport) is required for holiday activities in this area- road access is easy ,on good roads,to Stralsund and Rugen.The town of Barth is best reached by the back road from the hotel,not the main road.There is a good class(not like a Netto/Lidl !) supermarket(Famila) nearby.
We had a suite,room 117, but the ordinary rooms seem a good size and are really comprehensively furnished.There is plenty of room to hang and stow things,in a way which puts expensive designer hotels to shame.There are proper carpets,curtains and a good firm bed.Be prepared for the local fashion of two silly little single duvets on a double bed.Bring your own top sheet,if wanted!
Although,as usual in German hotels,there is no bath,the shower does at least have a proper enclosure,somewhere to put the soap,a grab handle to prevent mishaps when washing the feet,and even a standpipe to allow four inches of water to soak in.Being free from the curse of the "designer" there is even a proper basin,with a plug.
Breakfast is good,not luxurious,with eggs(HB/scrambled) as the only hot food,but with plenty of cheese/ meat/wurst and good bread.They have the excellent "Eilles" tea.
You can specify what you want in your packed lunch,at a reasonable price.
In view of the location,dinner is likely to be in the hotel restaurant.The menu has a fair choice of traditional German dishes,and some pasta,with good service and quality.
I do not think many foreign visitors come to this beautiful part of the world.The staff here do not speak English.

A little remote but very nice.
Nice staff that makes you feel welcome. Ok breakfast but only eggs and boiled eggs as hot offer. Missed the possibility of bacon etc. It also seems that it is a bit cumbersome that the hotel does not have restaurant or food offerings in the evening when the DNA is a bit outside the city.

Better than you might think
Our approach to Pommernhotel did not look promising as we passed through an out of town shopping area ( Lidl, Aldi and Netto) and by rather unattractive blocks of residential flats. However the hotel was actually in very pleasant wooded surroundings. The hotel itself looked unpretentious but was welcoming and clean. We were given a room for disabled people on the ground floor so the shower/wet room was very spacious. The hair dryer was located in the bathroom. However the towels were harsh and wi-fi impossible to access. Our good sized room had a desk and two chairs, a large wardrobe a mini bar and a medium sized tv. There was no air conditioning. There were adequate points for recharging appliances. We ate at the hotel because there was nowhere else to eat locally but it was very pleasant eating outside. There was a good continental style breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful. Although this is a very good place to stay if I returned to Barth I might choose somewhere more central.

The room was disappointing in that it was too warm during the time of year we visited (August) as no air conditioning. The window opened only a tiny bit. There is parking at the front of the hotel, but not too many spaces. We ate in the restaurant which was nothing to write home about. I did not notice any internet connection in the room, and feel this is vital for most travellers these days. The hotel is not near the marina, so you'd have to drive if you wanted to be in that part of town.
Overall I'd say that this hotel offers nothing memorable, yet wasn't cheap.
