Just off Interstate 84, this Ashford, Connecticut motel is 14 miles from the University of Connecticut. It features a 24-hour front desk and is 7.4 miles from the Stafford Motor Speedway.

Needed a respite. An area to do work and be calm and this was the perfect area. Hidden off the road. Friendly staff.

Dump!
We were passing through the area late in the evening after a full day of driving and needed a place to sleep. This appeared to be one of the few available options. Before booking, I read the reviews and noticed a mix of very positive and very negative experiences. We were exhausted, so we decided to take a chance.
Because this was a last-minute online reservation, I expected to pay a premium. However, the $120 rate felt excessive for what was offered. Out of curiosity, I checked a booking site after our stay and found rates closer to $60 with advance notice, which seemed far more appropriate.
The motel is extremely isolated. It sits well off the road in a wooded area with no nearby restaurants, businesses, or other lodging options. Some travelers may appreciate the quiet setting, but we found it somewhat unsettling after dark.
One reason I am posting photos is that my experience was very different from several of the recent positive reviews. Rather than speculate about why that might be, I'll simply describe what we encountered.
The Property
• The office had a strong cooking odor that carried throughout the small lobby.
• The building is older and appears to need substantial maintenance and updating.
• Overall upkeep throughout the property seemed minimal.
The Room
• The room was worn, dated, and generally felt unclean.
• To the motel's credit, we saw no evidence of bedbugs and no obvious cigarette burns.
• There was no ice bucket in the room. Guests must access an ice machine located in an old laundry room behind the building. We were instructed to use our key card to enter, but the door was already broken open.
• The television itself was reasonably sized, but the remote control did not match the TV. It controlled volume only, leaving us unable to change channels. The television happened to be set on Cocomelon, which became our entire evening entertainment package.
• The refrigerator and microwave both appeared functional.
• The entry door would not close tightly and had a noticeable gap around the frame, allowing light from outside to be clearly visible.
• The wall tile in the shower needed fresh caulking. What initially seemed to be one of the better features of the room quickly lost points when the shower control handle came off in my hand and fell into the shower floor.
• I also found a used washcloth sitting on top of the soap dispenser, which did not inspire confidence in the cleaning process.
• The closet area was dirty and poorly maintained.
• The baseboard heater in the bathroom area appeared neglected and in need of replacement.
I've included photos so readers can judge the condition for themselves.

The bathroom, what's not as clean as I expected. The sheet had stains on it. And there was holes in the bathroom walls . Everything else was okay.

For the price, you're getting a decent room. Its fairly quiet and you're not far from Sturbridge, MA or Stafford, CT.
