Hit or miss if you have issues with your room.

Stayed at the Dow Villa before and after my John Muir Trail hike on July 2026. The motel is generally pretty clean. Beds were comfy and linens nice and clean. Parking is a bit of an issue as you often can’t park near your room and have to take what you can get. My first stay was without issue but my stay in later July wasn’t great. First off, there was no hand soap as the front desk staff told me the shipment was late. I’ve never had an experience where a hotel had no soap and being that I’d be backpacking for 3 weeks getting clean was a priority for me. Admittedly they did have soap in the shower dispenser, but I do prefer bar soap. The only recourse was a squirt of liquid soap in a cup from the front desk staff. Second issue is the tub drain is super slow, so you end up standing in water as your showering. Oh and the ceiling was falling apart near the shower too. Third issue was the batteries in the main TV remote were dead and the WiFi connection the TV uses was so slow/weak that you couldn’t even watch a movie without it stopping to buffer every 30 seconds. I didn’t have the TV problem on my first stay so I’m guessing the second stay (room 19) is farther from the access point? Either way this should be fixed in my opinion.

Pleasant hotel but slow Service

Historic hotel linked to the Western Film Festival, several signed photos inside.
The room was spacious and clean. Swimming pool available, also with whirlpool.
The reception and Cleaning Service was very slow. Check in after 4 pm, do not arrive earlier because they are still ready late.
