Tips declined! And left behind by me on departure, anyway.
Hotel is very basic & shows its age, but clean & low priced. And in an ideal location

Bautong was a safe haven for my late night arrival. They answered my messages promptly and assured me that someone would be up waiting for my arrival. The room was large and clean with everything you need. The staff was friendly and helpful. I only changed hotels to be in the old town and closer to the action. I would definitely stay here again if coming through Chiang Mai.

Aging but comfortable facility with friendly, helpful staff in convenient location

An aging but still comfortable, conveniently located guest house, on a quiet side alley just off a busy tourist nightlife street. Within easy walking distance of many tourist attractions, eating places, and entertainment and shopping areas. The staff is pleasant and very helpful. At 600 baht/night (Nov. 2024), it offers excellent value among guest houses with air-conditioned rooms with refrigerators. There is no microwave oven, but there is a separate small kitchen sink in an alcove. Breakfast is not included. Clean and comfortable, though facilities are beginning to show their age. Possible problems for some travelers: (1) There is no lift/elevator, and the stairs are narrow and steep without handrails. This may be an obstacle for some; there are no ground floor rooms. (2) Room doors have no deadbolts, locks are ordinary home key locks. The guesthouse is in a safe district, so should not be a practical problem - I have been staying here since 2011. (3) Walking to many tourist attractions, shopping areas, etc. involves passing through a lively red-light district. While it is safe at all time of the day and tourists are not harassed, some may find it distasteful.
