Fabulous stay, very querky and very interesting link to Bram Stoker. The staff kindly let us see the visitors book showing Bram Stokers entry and made for a good couple of hours browse if u like that kind of history. Also close to Slains Castle, just a short walk away. Very enjoyable stay.

DO NOT GET THE STEAKS

First off I’ll start with the ONE positive from my visit to this establishment
The staters were lovely well seasoned good quality no complaints
HOWEVER my experience from starting off highly drastically plummeted
Fwi My partner and her mother both have mushroom allergies
My first complaint is
I received my steak with mushrooms it also did not look appealing at all ( what I sent back due to having mushrooms on it ) 8-10 mins later I get a “new steak” what was you could not even class as a blue steak it was RAW the Mf was still going moo
My partner and her mother both had the steak strips with Drambuie & peppercorn sauce, rice with veg & sweet potato fries (the combination was not ideal. they did not work together at all the veg what was meant to be in the rice did not come untill after the meals were served after being asked for them , the flavouring, texture was just off the sauce was burnt and split with a horrible gloopy texture with an overpowering peppercorn flavour) within 5 mins of leaving the establishment my partner and her mother have both been violently throwing up consistently and have both taken an allergic reaction to mushrooms their only allergen they both have (as their food has definitely ether been cross contamination or cooked with mushrooms along next to their steaks) after this being mentioned on 3 separate occasions this an allergen. one before ordering, once as a confirmation and once asked if their steaks were cooked next to the one I originally got what contained mushrooms
Unfortunately this is not a great place for food and as an industry I would be absolutely sickened and embarrassed to find out my chefs have caused 2 severe allergic reactions to customers
Yes I understand mushroom is not a main allergen however as a chef if you have been informed someone is intolerant or has an allergen to Any food you don’t just risk it, you could at least mention there may be trace amounts due to equipment YET WE WERE NOT INFORMED OF THIS to better our judgement on what to order
Speaking from a chefs point of view as that’s my occupation I would seriously be going back to culinary school and doing you’re basic training again that poor cow got disgraced with that horrible cooking
Thank you to this hotel for providing me with the WORST steak I have ever experienced in my life and to that poor cow that was butchered for NOTHING you deserved a better chef
Another issue is why is ur restaurant CLOSED and we are sitting in the lounge with roudy guests drinking Next to us in a bar
1 star review for the starters the service from the front of house
Sincerely jacks snacks

Won’t be back

We were advised against going here for dinner after somebody had a very poor experience recently.
We have enjoyed it in the past so gave it the benefit of the doubt. Rang to book a table for family of 4. Was asked if it would be for the restaraunt or the bar. I said the bar would be fine. Girl said “oh you don’t need to book the bar.” I questioned this as I had previously. She insisted we just “showed up.” Again I asked if she was sure and she said “yeah.” So after gathering everybody we drove an hour to Cruden Bay. We entered and were told by the girl at the bar that they couldn’t accommodate us as they were full. There were a couple sitting at the bar and two at a table - the rest of the room was empty. I nervously giggled for my husband to look at me confused . I said we had been told just to ‘show up’ when I rang. She went and got through the girl we spoke to who apparently thought we meant THE OTHER BAR. In looking at the website this doesn’t even sell food!
I wasn’t even sure you could eat there not that there were any tables because it was full of people drinking and playing darts. Not exactly where we had planned for a meal out with our kids. Left pretty annoyed. No apology given.
Fortunately, we rang the New Inn at Ellon which was literally FULL and yet happily managed to accomodate us after a bit of reshuffling. Now that is how you do it. Had a fantastic meal there and would highly recommend.
Will not attempt the Kilmarnock arms in a hurry.

Staff very friendly and helpful, rooms a bit dated and tired. The lighting in the rooms is poor and particularly in the bathroom, not enough light to shave properly

Loved it

After visiting family in Cruden Bay we requested the Killie numerous times. The locals were very welcoming and the staff were so hospitable we were incredibly impressed. Shannon, Amy, Maddie, kayla, Joseph and Hollie were just stars throughout and always there on hand if needed. Fab pub, great meals and super staff.. Fully recommend!
