A Beautiful Calm Retreat Location
The most soul recharging break I’ve ever experienced.
Beautiful decor, very peaceful location.
The owners put their hearts into every detail.
We stayed in the upgraded rooms with a private hot tub. Very comfortable bedding and mattress.
The courtyard and room decor is so beautiful, inspiring and very relaxing. You literally forget that you are in the UK. Feels very Mediterranean with a strong south American style influence. Just beautiful.
You feel one with the nature. Boutique but not cheap looking or over the top. Very classy and artistic. We can’t wait to be back. Located near attractions like Eden project and The Lost Gardens of H. Definitely need a car, but nothing is too far. Very peaceful and quiet. We can’t wait to be back.

Lovely setting for a peaceful, romantic getaway.
Booked this as a surprise first wedding anniversary stay for my wife (5 nights). Communications with Janie over email were always polite and answered any queries quickly, as well as Janie helping to plan a few small finishing touches.
On arrival - Janie was friendly and a warm host, and we were blown away by the accommodation - the pictures do not give it justice. There were several couples there on the night of arrival, but in our little hideaway ("The Nook") we didn't see or hear anyone. Despite us both being coeliacs, and requiring gluten-free items, the Nook was well stocked with coffee, teas, drinking chocolate, gluten free bread & cereals, and even some gluten free scones, clotted cream and jar of jam on arrival.
We did remember to take toastie bags though so there was no chance of cross-contamination from the toaster.
Had a lovely romantic meal the first night (as it was a 6 hour drive to get there, I didn't fancy booking somewhere else for a meal), prepared and served by Janie in a separate small romantic setting.
The Nook was lovely and clean, with a hot tub and sauna (a few cobwebs here and there but then it is in the middle of the countryside so we expect that!). Complete with your own small kitchen, sitting area, luxurious bed and bathroom - the Nook had everything we needed for a quiet, relaxing, romantic getaway.
Breakfasts were excellent with a good choice and plenty - Janie was able to cater for us both every day without any noticeable effort.
I see that a few people have commented about access and finding the Lower Barns. Janie and Mike (we didn't get to meet him unfortunately), have put up some brown signs to help find it which work fine in combination with a satnav. However, you do have to bear in mind that as the location is very rural, there are no walking routes from the farm and the lanes (as with most Cornish country roads) are extremely narrow with high Cornish hedges (think a dry stone wall, with 8foot hedge on the top), they are not suitable for walkers and everyone has to be very careful driving in the area.
Overall, a great place for a peaceful, romantic getaway from it all, offering good value for money. We even got to borrow the dog (Freda) for an evening whilst we were there!

Eloping in style
I can not put into words what an amazing, once in a lifetime experience we had staying at the Lower Barns. Janie, Mike and Freida are super welcoming from the moment your feet touch the ground.
Accommodation - The accommodation is super clean. As someone with autism, staying away from home can be overwhelming and its not often i feel comfortable but here felt like home from home. The quirky decor adds so much flavour and character, i was beyond envious of the design ideas.
Food - I still dream about the food we had at Lower Barns. The breakfast options were great, and i have tried replicating Janie's omlette many times and still have not succeeded. Also the wedding dinner was probably one of my favourite meals of all time. WOW!! Great, great dishes!!
Location - If being lost in the wilderness of Cornwall is your style, then this is the place to stay!! We loved the location, easy short drive to local beaches, the gardens (Recommend the visit), but also it means the noise levels are so low. Waking up and hearing the birds and local wildlife existing is spot on.
I don't feel like this review even begins to explain how great it is there but i hope it gives an insight!!

Unique and beautiful
We had the most amazing little wedding and stay at Lower Barns.
The rooms and gardens are beautiful and eclectic- unlike anywhere I've ever been!
We stayed in the Hayloft Hangout with our children and we all felt at home right away, it is so comfortable with beautiful things everywhere.
Breakfast was amazing and the hosting from Janie and Mike was exceptional! We went to the beach and Mike took some brilliant photos of our wedding.
Such a special place- cannot recommend highly enough!
The rooms and gardens are beautiful and eclectic- unlike anywhere I've ever been!

A Quiet and Peaceful Break
We stayed for 4 nights and had a superb time. The decor is based around Mike and Janie's experiences of South America and the whole place is warm and colourful. Our room (Lawnside) has a very comfortable bed, a cosy sitting area and well-equipped shower room. Breakfast was served either on the terrace outside our room, weather permitting, or in the dining room. The food was wonderful. Everything was immaculate and Mike and Janie could not have been better hosts. We thoroughly recommend Lower Barns and will certainly to stay here again when we next visit Cornwall.
