Charming 1840s Accommodation

Our 4th blissful visit to this delightful Homestead on pretty rural acreage. We love the old world charm of the Heritage suite which is extremely clean & comfortable. The bed & pillows were just right. Plus a kitchenette with breakfast provisions. The host Garry has written many books which we enjoyed reading on the deck overlooking the pretty garden & mountains! Bliss!

Cold snap led to cold stay

Arrived just prior to dark, the owner showed us up stairs to The Loft. Not a single light was on, he turned them on as he went and mentioned he had put the heater on. It seems the heater had only been on a very short time because the place was cold and then FREEZING during the night. The Queen bed had an electric blanket on it with tape around the cord - scary. We were staying 2 nights but only 3 sachets of butter in the fridge. A jar of peanut butter and vegemite were on hand - already opened and used by previous people - hellooooooo we're in COVID times. We had to wash crockery and cutlery before we used it as they were still dirty. The brush left at the sink for washing up was absolutely disgusting - the once white bristles were stained brown. Unfortunately this was a stay we struggled to enjoy. In fact we were happy to leave early on our day of departure

Enjoyed a wonderful two night stay in the tranquil, surprisingly spacious and beautifully furnished Loft apartment. Would not have changed a thing and wish our stay had been longer. Friendly greeting on arrival, very thoughtful provision of a loaf of bread and some spreads, port and chocolates. Beautiful garden. Conveniently only 30 minutes from Hobart, but it feels like another world.

Crabtree Cottage The Heritage Suite is at the rear of the main building with private terrace. Garry made us feel welcome in his quaint and quirky home. Creaky floorboards and we could hear the residents above in The Loft but they place is very old. Ten minutes drive from Huonville. Large comfy bed and large bathroom. One living room. The webpage says you can cook your own dinner. Not easy as the kitchenette is a corner of the room. One single element. Large electric pan which we never looked at. A microwave. One tatty pan with no lid and no seive to drain our pasta. Breakfast was adequate. We appreciated the port! We accidentally left a box of booze behind but Garry saved it for us to pick up three days later. Thank you. Thoroughly recommend The Block restaurant in town for a special meal and the information shop was very helpful.
