Worst hostel

Worst hostel on the east coast. The dorm had no air conditioning. It was the worst night of my trip in Australia because of the heat in the room. There were two fans, one of which didn’t work. The lights didn’t work either. There were belongings everywhere—impossible to store your things properly, there’s just no space. The kitchen is tiny: 8 stovetops for the entire hostel… 3 showers and 2 toilets for the whole floor (there must be around 60 people on the floor). Neither the staff nor customer service can help you if you have questions more complex than “where is the toilet.” Nothing was right.
I don’t understand how this hostel managed to get more than 4 stars on TripAdvisor .

Great location, people and helpful staff and all round value for money. Way better than the first hostel I stayed at in Melbourne!

A little gem!

Absolutely loved staying at The Mansion. The staff was super nice and caring. I felt there is a huge attention to make sure there is respect for other guests so I was able to sleep really well. I felt it spacious and with solid systems in place to manage shared spaces. Internet was strong and stable. The historical building has a beautiful character. not sure if in full season of summer the kitchen might feel a bit too small but overall it was a very pleasant, comfortable and clean place to stay. also super close to the city centre. Price was incredibly good in my experience.
