Quirky little Gem

This wonderfully quirky gem is situated perfectly in the city. Lovely staff, friendly atmophare. Its a shame that Sydney is so sad and gray in 2025. Harrys Hotel is still a quirky gem polish you crown Sydney.

The fire sprinkler leaked during the night soaking the top half of the bed, construction started nextdoor at 7am with loud jack-hammering and the TV connection stopped working at night. Was very expensive on that particular night, and was the worst hotel experience I have had to date.

Disappointing experience-Hospitality Clearly Not a priority

We stopped in at Hotel Harry to meet friends for drinks and possibly stay for Dinner —but after half an hour , we decided to take our business elsewhere..In a suburb like Surry Hills , where there are so many great venues doing it right , this one really misses the mark ,.
The Atmosphere was overwhelmingly loud , making it hard to hold a conversation.Cocktails were overpriced and frankly , underwhelming in both quality and presentation..Most disappointing of all was the staff —they seemed completely disinterested and disengaged , as if they’d rather be anywhere else
Hospitality is about more than just pouring drinks —it’s about making people feel welcome ,,and this venue failed on that front. Wouldn’t return especially when there are many better options just around the corner

Smells like dirty hipster spirit

I get the heritage, retro vibes; I get the shabby hipster decor, but one thing I'll never get is over powering room deodoriser scents. It was so overwhelming ascending the worn carpeted stairs to my room. Inside the room it was mildly better. While the sheets and bed were clean (pillows were old and worn), the room really needed a full deep clean, especially in the bathroom. Sure, toilet was clean, but years of built up grime and dust around shower base, sink floor and tiles, was bad.
I went to open the window to get fresh air (also, to help deal with scent) and found that it doesn't lock but opens into an air-lock, where I could look into a businesses back door. Not good for security.
Happily, I stayed mid week which didn't include the noise issues that others have spoken about.
Shame, as it doesn't feel like with too much work it could be worthy of it's 3 stars... at the moment, more like 2. :(

Avoid it during week-end unless you want to sleep above a very noisy pub

The hotel is actually a 2-floors pub with rooms upstairs, so during week-ends, you can "enjoy" the very loud music until late at night. which is really not why you're booking an hotel room for. The room is also very small and a bit old. But it seems to be one of the cheapest hotel in the area (probably for this reason...).
