Perfection in heritage boutique accommodation

I spent two nights here in conjunction with day surgery at The Mater which is 2 minutes away.
Because of COVID-19 I was given a deluxe room with a King bed, private courtyard and all the amenities one could wish for.
This lovely hotel is very close to the city. It has been decorated in true Federation style and is a delight to stay in.
Underground parking is included.

Excellent boutique hotel in North Sydney

Attractive Federation style boutique hotel with charming rooms, quiet, close to public transport and pleasant breakfast area. Staff were polite and helpful.
Great option to staying in the city or more noisy areas close to CBD.

Elegant Old World experience with room to 'swing a cat'.

Spent the weekend at this lovely little hotel. Walking distance from North Sydney Station. Large well presented rooms, reasonable bathroom and a private door from my room to a pleasant outside sitting area with my own table and chairs. House was from yesteryear but beautfully presented with access to a formal lounge room for guests to meet with friends, if wanted, I felt like I was at a B&B with friendly staff and good service.
Would return with no concerns.

A Great Find

This is a great find in terms of value for money and location. Walking distance to North Sydney station and an IGA and Woollies on the way meant for easy travelling and snacks. The room was spacious, the continental breakfast plentiful and the tea/coffee station a nice touch. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My only complaint was that the toilet was not a dual flush which should be standard in hotels today.

Uncomfortable

Sorry to say the bed is very hard. Even with piling up the spare blankets I couldn’t get comfortable.
The place is very noisy. The floorboards creak even if you just roll over in bed, and the plumbing to other rooms is loud. Pillows were extremely lumpy.
Please, don’t add pillow toppers to old beds. Replace the mattress.
The fridge produces a loud hum.
I am astonished to read the defensive (unprofessional) retorts to other reviews. The staff at the hotel were very nice, thank you.

Good morning from the McLaren Hotel,
Our sincere apologies for the the bed being too hard. We buy beds that tend towards the hard side largely to give the bed some life and also overall we have found customer preference leans towards firm beds.
We do put doona style toppers on the beds. We find this retains the firmness of the bed but provides that extra comfy feel. However, we hear what you say and will strip all the beds in the front section of the hotel and check them out.
With the squeaking of the floorboards means you were in the old heritage part of the hotel.We were aware of this problem and when we re-carpeted this part of the hotel, we laid down masonite board to provide more stabilisation.
Yes the bar fridges can be a bit noisy. We have turned them right down so they are not working as much. However, it is a problem, we have not been able to totally fix. As we have now removed the mini bar contents with the exception of bottled water, I would suggest next time you visit...you request the staff to simply turn of the fridge.
I am afraid to say, that we do occasionally get reviews that are completely unjustified. I think in the last 3 months we have had one. I make no apology in responding firmly once we have established the facts and find them to be inaccurate.
I hope the above has in some way alleviated your concerns and we hope we will have the opportunity to have another go at giving you a better experience next time.
