Lovely hotel in Durrnstein with car parking

Lovey hotel overlooking the Danube
It is in quaint and charming Duenstein.
You can hike up to the ruins right behind the hotel.

Old. Old furniture. No AC. Dining staff sort of rude. Great location though. There had to be better options

Squashed Dessert presentation, and expensive tap water...

We came as a foursome for Mother's Day to the restaurant. The ambience was lovely, as were the staff. The starters were delicious and the main course fish meal was fine, but our dessert, three chocolate cakes with melted chocolate, and one Sorbet were forgotten. When they finally arrived, one of the chocolate desserts was broken apart in many pieces and looked like it had been dropped, in comparison to the other two which were fine. There was no apology for it when it was served, it also seemed to be not quite baked through. Unfortunately we didn't think of taking photos of it. In addition we were rather surprised to be charged € 5.50 for 1 litre of tap water (Leitungswasser).

Overall disappointing

Thanks to the fully turned up heating, it was unbearably warm when we entered the room, so we quickly opened the windows and then disappeared for an evening walk. On our return then the unpleasant surprise: something boomed unbearably loud in the courtyard, sleep with open windows was unthinkable.
The lady at the reception was quite surprised by the noise: "There's no way this can come from us." A quick call to the boss: "No, there are no available rooms in your category".
Both were flatly lies!
On the castle side there were a lot of spare rooms, and the roar, as we found out the next morning, came from the restaurant exhaust system; it stopped every evening at 22:00 and started preparing breakfast around 7:00.
Obviously, with the weekly special (stay 3 - number 2) we only got the cheapest rooms and were not taken quite seriously either.
The breakfast was above average, the dinner ok, the rooms for so much money (it was still a lot of money) a bit small.

A beautiful hotel on the Danube in Duernstein Austria

I beautiful hotel on the Danube in Duernstein Austria. A beautiful place to stay for a few nights to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The town is very compact one street with many shops and a few restaurants. It becomes very crowded when a river cruise boat stops. The breakfast room was wonderful and the Hostess was the best! The staff was wonderful and Maria and her husband the owners of the hotel could not have been nicer. She was always at the front desk during the day to help with any problems or advise us on things to see. The elevator is a little small and difficult at times to get on during the evening just before dinner
