Beautiful memories of two days in the castle among the vineyards.

We spent a memorable two days at Kapfenstein Castle. It was only the second week of March, but the castle was so warm and cozy, the hospitable hosts and staff surrounded us with care. Thank you, Petra, for showing us the rooms so nicely and helping us with the choice at dinner.
Very delicious dinner and good local wines. I particularly liked the mashed soup and beef stew.
Breakfast is beautiful too. In such a beautiful hall overlooking the vineyards. An extensive selection of food, drinks, and we were also given a pleasant surprise to celebrate our birthday. Thank you!
And, of course, you should mention a walk through the sunny spring vineyards, wine tasting at the "wine stands" and a final tea party on the open veranda of the Castle.
We'll definitely be back.
Yes! we also took a tour to Zotter, which is quite convenient when staying at Kapfenstein Castle. Also highly recommended.

Spectacular Views and Great Food and Wine in a Comfortable Inn

This old castle was a perfect stop for us on our travels between Hallstatt and Budapest. I wished we'd stayed an extra day in this beautiful area. The view from our suite (the Poet's room) was breathtaking, especially at sunrise and sunset. The inn is a little rugged, as the house was built with rough wood floors. The rooms are well furnished with comforts of a modern home along with antique furnishings. Breakfast is amazing, with so many meats, cheeses, spreads, breads, and fresh fruits. Our dinner in the restaurant was also delicious, including the family's Winkler-Hermaden wines. There is not much English spoken here, but we managed fine. Don't miss the medieval armory in Graz nearby.

Noble weekend at the castle with wine tasting

The Winkler-Hermaden family offers a wonderful operation of Schloss Kapfenstein (hotel/gastronomy), viticulture, the timber industry and hunting in the south of eastern Styria. In beautifully renovated rooms you sleep like a count (m/f/d). The wine tasting is done by the long-standing and extremely experienced wine grower himself, who tells in his calm but very knowledgeable way of working. The food preparation is also perfect. In any case, it is worth going to this "quiet" corner of Styria.

Houte cousine in an old castle

Spending our aniversary in an old castle was a great idea. This place is almost 1000 years old, overlooking the wineyards of eastern Styria an really worth to visit. The rooms are furnished with real old pieces, only the bathroom is modern and state-of-the-art. But the best is the cousine. We had a wonderful and delightful 4-course gourmet dinner and wine from the winery of the castle owners. Absolutely recommendable!

Romantic location, beautiful setting

Next to vineyard, set in a historic castle, beautiful views, discreet staff, loved everything about the place. Grounds are immaculately kept, food was exquisite in restaurant on site, highly recommended.
