Pure relaxation
Very nicely maintained hotel with very great hosts and very concerned about the well-being of guests.

Rip-off, cake homemade!
We were, in Mörbisch walks and at the entrance in front of the hotel the board caught our eye on “ homemade cakes and cakes” We stopped and the waiter was very friendly and gave us a dessert menu, but where there were no cakes or cakes.My wife wanted to see the cakes in a showcase, you buy with the eye, but there was no showcase and my wife ordered 1 piece of cake.
This was served on a large plate with a bit of a tin punch (we didn't buy ) and 3 pieces of strawberries, I didn't order either.
The cake then cost a fabulous 9.90 euros.I felt ripped off, which I also told the waiter.
I told the waiter still to tell his boss that the price is not in the dessert menu, and I feel ripped off.

Always a great experience, this year for the 5th time, it doesn't get any better.
An all-round feel-good experience.
In a wonderfully quiet location overlooking Hungary and Lake Neusiedl and of course storks.
Food wonderful, varied, the chef is an artist.
Rooms well equipped, fridge and air conditioning.
Wonderfully large pool with beautiful sunbathing lawns, park-like.

Excellent!!
10 years of loyalty was greatly appreciated!! It's always nice to go on holiday here. The cuisine is exceptional, excellent, very varied, very good menus, versatile homemade wine range. The entire Schmidt team does its best every day!

A charming hotel
A lovely, friendly private, family run hotel in the eastern Austrian town of Mörbisch, by the Neusiedler See. This was a place we have visited before, so we decided, as a birthday treat for my wife, to make a return visit and we were joined by friends who drove down from Germany. I believe English is spoken, as there are notices in English. But my broken German seemed to be accepted by everyone there.
The hotel has many wellness facilities, including an outdoor infinity pool. The rooms are comfortable. From my perspective, the crowning glory was the wonderful food. Dinner each evening consisted of 5 courses. Each day presented fresh choices and all meals were freshly cooked and presented with great flare. The wine list had some very good local Austrian wines although, most evenings, I chose to drink the excellent local beer. The staff were very attentive, friendly and professional. After dinner, there is a games area with options to play chess, backgammon etc. - or just read or chat.
Bikes are available for hire, at a very reasonable rate, together with cycling helmets, so that you are able to explore the surrounding area. We cycled across the border into the charming Hungarian town of Sopron, where we did some sightseeing and had lunch in a restaurant in a square in the old town. Beware, though: Hungary does not have the Euro and, while most places accept payment in Euros (about 400 Florints to the Euro) not everywhere does. It is best to check first, before ordering/purchasing anything. Restaurant prices in Sopron represent very good value.
The Neusiedler See also offers many opportunities for circumnavigation by bike or, for those with more of a nautical bent, ferry rides to various locations around the lake.
We also visited Eisenstadt, a lovely town about 25km away and, within the town, the Schloss Esterhazy with its tales of Haydn patronage and a history to the family up to the death of Paul in 1984.
Slightly further afield - and not recommended for any but the most accomplished cyclist, is the fortress at Forchtenburg, a 13th century castle built at the top of a a tall hill. It is an incredible feat of engineering. Of course, the castle is reachable by car or coach. One curious and interesting fact is that it houses the only remaining portrait of 'Vlad the Impaler', Vlad III, Vlad Dracul ("Vlad the Dragon"), who was the inspiration for Bram Stokers 'Dracula' novel. He looks a very scary character. The castle houses an interesting collection of military memorabilia, with uniforms, weapons of various sorts etc. and much information about the rise of the Esterhazy's.
Getting There:
We chose to fly from Birmingham with Lufthansa, which required staging through Germany (direct flights are not available from Lufthansa, for some reason, and we will not do this again). On the way out we staged through Frankfurt and had 40 minutes to get through border/immigration control to the departure gate for the flight to Vienna. Why this was necessary for transit passengers is probably down to some EU rule about being checked in the first EU country 'foreigners' enter. Although transit passengers are not, actually entering the country they are transiting through. It, nevertheless, added a lot of stress to the journey. We made it by the skin of our teeth but, as we found out on arrival in Vienna, our luggage did not. It was, however, delivered to the hotel later that night.
Lufthansa's embarkation policy seems designed to induce delay, and I hope they resolve this in future: they board people by groups (so far so good) but, instead of boarding Group 3/4 passengers seated in the cheap seats to the rear of the aircraft first, they board Business class passengers and then Group 2. So Group 3 (and 4) passengers are kept waiting on the steps to the aircraft while those inside queue behind Group 2 passengers as luggage is loaded into the overhead lockers. It is chaos. Imagine queuing outside on the steps when it is raining! I would not want to pay the huge fee for a Business Class flight to be harassed passengers carrying shoulder bags and cabin luggage.
Getting to Mörbisch is not easy without a car. We took a taxi from the airport, which cost an eye-watering €130 (£114 for a 40 mile journey). My advice is: DON'T TAKE A TAXI, it is cheaper to hire a car and drop it off in the town. The public transport connections to Mörbisch are not that great, from what I could tell, so it might be advisable to think about car hire anyway.
In summary, this charming hotel is located in a fairly quiet town, where the local people are very friendly and polite - how many children and young people in UK greet adult strangers with "Hello" or "Good morning"? Because of the facilities on offer, the hotel is more suited to adult guests who are focused on wellness and relaxation, with the added bonus of first rate cuisine.
To paraphrase a well-known Austrian, "We will be back"!
