Fine stay, highly recommended!
We were guests for Christmas at hotel Auwirt, a very nice well located hotel on the outskirts of Saalbach (really everything nearby). Very friendly received and everything was taken care of. Fine breakfast in the morning. We will definitely go back!

Location top, facilities well
The Hotel Auwirt is difficult to rate. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food is really good in the evening, the breakfast is not what you are used to from other hotels with ski slopes. You have to ask about oats, there are no cereals to choose from and the otherwise often common Bircher cereal is also missing completely. However, you can order different egg dishes or waffles or pancakes.
The sauna is fine, but you have to let us know if you want to use it, only then will it be raised. However, there are towels and provided drinks. The hotel itself is renovated, but not particularly affectionate and not in Alpine style. If you want an Austrian experience, this hotel is definitely wrong. The interior looks rather cheap, it is more of a youth hostel style. However, what is very disturbing is the insane clairvoyant in this House. The hallways are tiled, there are no pictures on the wall and also no runners or carpets that would swallow the sound a little. You can hear the flushing of the toilets of the neighbouring rooms, and the windows are not particularly tight either, so the traffic noise can be heard all night. At -16°. In January we barely managed to get the room warm, the heating was a bit small for the large room and also not particularly warm. The hotel is frequented by many groups due to the offer of three-in-ones. Of course, this also makes it particularly loud, especially when you say goodbye loudly in the evening (or at night) in the hallways.
The sauna is fine, but you have to let us know if you want to use it, only then will it be raised. However, there are towels and provided drinks. Very well located hotel in Saalbach
The hotel is on the roadside, opposite the municipal school. Spacious room with a balcony. Comfortable bed. Cleanliness is a little regular, not bad, but improveable. The staff is very attentive, except for some trouble with an employee to understand themselves in English. There is a bartender who explains very well where to ski, etc. If you are driving, you have to pay 10 € per day to leave it on the street in the parking lot of another hotel about 300 meters away. We had dinner a couple of days at the hotel and well, no bragging. Breakfast was not buffeted several days because they had few rooms occupied, something I really didn't like much. Overall fine, but it doesn't stand out.

Mixed feelings - great food though
Somewhat mixed feelings about the establishment, after 4 nights I spent there with my son. He got ill the day before we were meant to go to Saalbach from Salzburg, and we had to stay an extra day until he felt better (over an ear infection). So, we had 3 days to ski in Saalbach (which I cannot fault despite the warm weather), and were given a 3-bed room for the two of us on arrival, albeit the room overlooked the main road and the windows had to be locked at all times to avoid street noise.
I reserved the room for approx EUR 300 per night, but since I was required to pay for the night I missed out as well, my 4 nights came out to EUR 400 each, for a very basic room with breakfast. It feels a bit too much, to be honest, but this was the week between Christmas and New Year, and the term holiday premium also applied.
Schattberg X-press is indeed a 2-minute walk from the building, but all other ski lifts are about 7-10 min walk, in the village centre. The location is good for arriving, but the hotel sits on the outskirts and is certainly not centrally located. We stayed in Room 109 overlooking the road, and the balcony didnt feel private at all, as there were lots of cars arriving and leaving, as well as smokers in the street.
To the pros:
- cosy bar and lounge areas, which were empty most of the time, with small but quality selection of drinks;
- large ski room and a sauna which I didn't use;
- excellent breakfast for 3 stars which would be a good one for 4 stars;
- an excellent dinner option for EUR 45/- per day payable extra (30 per adult and 15 per child). We could eat as much as we wanted from the a la carte menu in the evening, and I would praise the chef for his creme brule and gulasch which were delicious;
- clean rooms;
- easy access to / from the building;
- friendly staff.
The cons:
- no temperature control in the room, and I would wake up every night to let some fresh air in from the street (there was a tiny inlet for airing in the window, but temperature was still too high);
- no bathroom toiletries other than hand soap - one and the same for hands, body and hair, which made me and my hair feel rather dull and unexcited. we ran out of soap by the sink on day 2, which was never refilled;
- very basic room furnishings, but I still do not understand the rating (if any) of the hotel?

Great location for skiing
We stayed at Hotel Auwirt while skiing in Saalbach. Great location close to the Schatberg gondola and the Town centre. Ask for a room at the back of the hotel-very noisy on the street side. I can recommend our room, Room 311, which was very quiet, with a lovely view and balcony. Good breakfast, with a wide variety, including continental and English breakfast offerings. Room and bathroom spacious, friendly service from helpful hotel staff. Sauna and steam room available, and a well equipped ski room. Recommendation to the Hotel: please add shoe drip trays in every room so you can leave wet shoes at the entrance to the rooms to dry out.
