Magnificent

A bit decentralized, but for this reason closer to the battlefields and the museum, it offers spacious rooms with all the necessary comforts. Ample free parking and an excellent restaurant. But the breakfast exceeded every imaginable expectation.

TRAIN YOUR STAFF PROPERLY!!!

Staff are rude. At breakfast we borrowed a chair from an empty table to save another table being used. The bearded waiter marched up and changed achaor and then complained that we had used the wring table. Cheap gin is put in Hendricks bottles in bar and sold for €13.50. Chambermaid is bad leaving dirty bed linen in room.

Napoleon would have won the Battle of Waterloo if he had stayed here the night vefore the battle

From start to finish this is a lovely hotel run by a really great Team. On arrival my greeting was from Maurine who could not have been more welcoming or more efficient for this slightly weary traveller who had navigated via the Eurostar from St Pancras and then a local train from Brussels Suid (platform 21) which stopped maybe 8 times in the 22 minute journey to Waterloo Station!! My room, whilst only a Standard, was very comfortable and had all the little extras to make a difference - a hairdrier in the bathroom, a great walk in shower and a good coffee maker for my first two cups of each day. Maurine's colleagues, Jonathan and Charlotte, proved to be just as friendly and equally efficient! Charlotte producing, as if by magic, a charger plug unit to enable me to save my mobile phone from "dying". At breakfast a veritable feast is on offer all very well cooked and superbly presented. And this is important as a traveller marches on his or her feet just like a Napoleonic Army. And it was Jean-Francois who marshalled the breakfast arrangements with good humour as well as efficiency. In the evening at the bar on the outside terrace a second Jonathan and his colleage Benjamin kept 16 or so weary Hickory Golfers (all playing with sets of pre 1935 clubs) well watered or perhaps to be more accurate well beered - including a marvellous Draught Leffe!! And finally, for now, Rafiq and his colleagues Chrimo and Sylvain (I apologise if my spelling isn't spot on) managed with some style when we added a party of 17 to an already quite busy evening service on a Tuesday evening. This even included working out the payment of the bill split one separate and then 16 times for the remainder!!!! The food was very good and the wine list better than very many establishments allowing us to try some Loire White and two separate light reds in a Morgon from Beaujolais and then a truly perfect (for a warm evening) red Sancerre (both the latter priced at a very reasonable 42€). All in all a great place to stay and if Napoleon had been wise enough to stay here the eve before the Battle he would have been well rested and fed and perhaps have managed to beat Wellington before Blucher arrived!!!!

Expensive, just not and too loud

Although the hotel has good rooms, our experience was not positive. Apart from the receptionists, the staff was uninterested. The food was mediocre and therefore also overpriced. One dares to charge 12 euros for a bottle of flat water.
Outside in the bar, loud music is played that was far too loud on the adjacent terrace of the restaurant. This music could also be heard very clearly in the room until noon, and the music was turned on again at half past six in the morning.
All in all not a pleasant stay at Van der Valk in Waterloo.

Seasoned meals!

Dear Sir or Madam,
We visited your establishment last Sunday and chose to spend the evening there by dining. (See attached receipt).
When ordering appetizers, my friends ordered cocktails from the menu and I ordered a traditional cocktail that all hotels in the world serve: a "Bloody Mary".
When your server came to bring them, I should have pointed out to him that this cocktail is served to the customer "unseasoned" and that, at the customer's discretion, Tabasco, celery salt, and Worcestershire sauce are presented as accompaniments. The drink was already seasoned and particularly very seasoned, barely drinkable. It is for this reason that I ordered an additional bottle of tomato juice, especially to dilute it if that were still possible.
The meal then proceeded more or less normally without any particular outbursts, though there were some remarks to be made regarding the kitchen's follow-through, which I will not dwell on.
Today, it has been three days that I have been struggling with terrible stomach pains that not only prevent me from working but, much more serious than that, have prevented me from having normal nights of sleep since then. I am seeing a doctor tomorrow morning because it is not going away.
While discussing it again with one of my friends who accompanied me that evening, she shared the receipt she had kept, and we can see the mention of a "Bloody Devil" cocktail, which, without a doubt, does not correspond to the traditional cocktail I had ordered.
Without wanting to be holier than the Pope, I believe that a hotel such as yours should maintain the traditions of high-end hospitality... or not, and serve the customer their order or offer an alternative, with complete transparency.
