Beautiful guesthouse in the middle of nature, silent.
Inn integrated with nature at the top of Rua do Bicão, far from the hustle and bustle of the village. Quiet, clean, open kitchen for us to use during the day. The staff are attentive, the place is a refuge in Abraão.

Cute hostel with gardens and kittens, solid 5 star
Cute hostel with lots of gardens and animals and a waterfall. Ilha grande doesn’t have hiltons or marriotts instead it has hostels and guest homes like this one. Some are fancier than others so do your research.
Pros - beautiful gardens with lots of tropical flowers, cute kittens as well. There’s a communal kitchen with basic ingredients and utensils/cooking ware and a grocery store about a 10 min walk towards the downtown area. Quiet at night and we had good wifi (stayed in the Rock room) though some of the other hostel guests said there’s was spotty. There’s also a cute sitting area by the reception. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. No insects inside the rooms which was a blessing
Cons - no war water, only Luke warm at best even when we set the shower dial to the hottest setting so get ready for fast military style showers. Also no soap or shampoo provided. Luckily we got some at the supermarket for about $3 USD. Very secluded and a decent uphill 10-15 min hike from the beach and downtown area. Not to bad for young couples but could be difficult for older folks. There is a porter who can bring luggage up or down for $5 USD or so.
Tips - tropical rains often happen in the evenings during rain season Dec-March so try to eat at indoor places for dinner. We really liked Brothers that’s one of the closet to the hostel. Also bring rain ponchos as you’ll need them! The island does accept credit but many tours and extra services only accept cash so good idea to bring about $100 USD per day. Lots of hikes on the island to Lopez Mendez beach or the prison but these are very long and strenuous and not a round trip so you do have to go there and back. Breakfast is not included so you do have to go out to get breakfast … Breakfast is limited on the island but our fave place was Lady Roots which is also close to the hostel

Jungle hotel
Relaxed hotel with a touch of jungle. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was great! Next to the hotel there is a water stream and a nature shower. The walk up to the hotel was not a problem since it was nice getting a bit off the sometimes noisy streets.

Oozes Character!
This hotel is located away from the noise but a short enough walk to enjoy it. A stream located on the property. I am allergic to cats and the owners upgraded my room, to a room cats can't get into, this was very kind. The property has a very rustic and calm feeling about it. Often there would be cake and coffee outside for guests to enjoy. There is quite a steep hill to walk up to get to the property. From memory it was only $1-2 dollars to pay a porter from the pier to take your luggage up the hill - and it is well worth the fee.

Lovely Place to stay in Ilha Grande
Stayed here for 3 nights as part of an organised tour of Brazil. The hotel is not too far away from the main docking port of Ilha Grande but up a very steep hill so it is worth paying for one of the porters with a trolly to push the cases up the hill.
This place has a nice tropical feel and surrounded by nature, you can hear what sounds like a waterfall and there is lots of greenery around. My room had a large rock forming part of the wall which looked great. The room did smell a bit damp, probably from having a natural rock as the wall but that didnt matter too much. The room also had a lovely stained glass front door, and the sun would light it up of a morning creating a lovely view.
Breakfast was good and is worth paying for each morning and is served outside in a pictureque setting. There are a lot of cats around the Cachoeira, they will come and sit on the balcony / patio area of the rooms and are very friendly.
I was disappointed at first that we were not staying by the sea / beach in Ilha Grande but I really liked this place due to the tropical / natural setting which was very peaceful and picturesque.
