Holidays in Sesc
The place is wonderful, ideal for family holidays, fun for all ages

Indignation: where is the culture Sesc says to foster?
I have always admired Sesc for positioning itself as an institution that promotes culture, education and access to knowledge. That’s why my last visit to Sesc Caldas Novas was deeply disappointing.
There was a simple, yet extremely symbolic and powerful space: a library of physical books, integrated into a resting environment. It was common to see people on vacation approaching, browsing books, reading without rush, stimulated by that silent invitation to culture. Next to it, a small cafeteria completed the coffee and reading experience, a perfect wedding.
To my surprise, on my last visit, the library simply ceased to exist. The space was eliminated for the expansion of the cafeteria. That is, the book left the scene to give way to more tables, more consumption and more coffee.
The inevitable question remains: how does an institution that presents itself as a promoter of culture decide to end up with a library to sell more coffee? What message does that pass? What kind of priority is being set?
It is not about being against the cafeteria it is welcome and harmonized with the library. But completely removing a space of reading, of access to the physical book, of cultural stimulus, is a strong symbolic choice. And, in this case, extremely contradictory to the values that Sesc says defends.
In addition, during the entire week I stayed there was no relevant cultural programming, especially aimed at children. I did not see theater, children’s cultural activities or structured recreational activities, as was the case on other visits. The agenda was basically summed up to presentations from the region. Nothing against sertanejo, but this alone does not represent cultural diversity nor meets the historical role that Sesc has always played.
In ancient times, Sesc brought together theatrical groups, promoted accessible shows, children's activities and recreations that stimulated children's imagination, creativity and contact with culture. I had very positive experiences there. That is why the contrast with the current scenario causes even more frustration.
Culture cannot be just institutional discourse. It needs to be present in choices, spaces and decisions. Taking books to expand consumption and impoverish cultural programming is not to foster culture is to replace it.
I register here my indignation and sadness to see such a relevant space being emptied of cultural sense.
I sincerely hope that Sesc will reflect on this path and review these decisions.

Spectacular place!
It was our eighth stay at Sesc Caldas Novas. We love this place. Good structure, great food, lively and friendly recreators (Tio Little is loved by the little ones), hygienic pools. There is the project Café with Prosa, in which the violinist D.Borges parades classics of our music. Anyway, it's worth seeing!
