Beautiful Leblon stay, but no on-site gym
I had a lovely stay at JANEIRO Hotel in Leblon. The location is fantastic. It’s one of the best areas in Rio, with easy access to the beach, great restaurants, and a generally safe, very upscale feel.
The hotel itself is beautifully designed and has a relaxed, luxury vibe. Service was warm and welcoming throughout my stay.
That said, one important drawback: there is no on-site gym. Guests are directed to a facility about two blocks away. While that might not be an issue for some, it’s a meaningful inconvenience if you rely on having a gym in the hotel, especially for early mornings or tight schedules.
Overall, it’s a great property in an amazing neighborhood, but the lack of an on-site gym is something to consider depending on your travel needs.

BEWARE!!! HIGH RISK. THEY WANT DIRECT ACCESS TO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!!
As someone who has stayed in scored of hotels on four different continents this year alone, I was shocked at how this hotel handles reservations. Everything begins as usual. You make a reservation, agree to the terms, and provide your credit card details. Everywhere else that's is sufficient. At JANEIRO hotel, however, that is where the harassment begins. They begin by demanding additional security through various platforms deemed "high risk" by my various credit card companies. When that fails, they then demand pay them directly by bank transfer, thus bypassing whatever protections you may have with your credit card company. When you decline to do this for security reasons, they then threaten you with "travel disruption". This kind of conduct is what I expect from scam artists and criminal organizations, not luxury hotels.
In the end I chose to go to the Fasano instead. I would recommend anywhere but JANEIRO hotel. Save yourself the harassment and possible fraud.

A great stay at the Janeiro Hotel
We stayed for 3 nights at the Janeiro Hotel and really enjoyed our stay. The location is excellent, right on Leblon Beach, and we felt very safe in the area.
Our rooms were large and well appointed, with coffee-making facilities, and the bathrooms were also very spacious. We particularly loved the fact that there are 2 showers (with amazing water pressure), so 2 people can get ready at the same time! We also loved the heated Japanese-style toilets!
Breakfast was excellent, with a good buffet selection as well as hot food cooked to order, all served in a lovely room overlooking the beach. The rooftop bar and terrace are also great - we took fab photos from there - the views are incredible. There’s a tiny outdoor pool on the roof which looks more like a plunge pool but we didn’t try it. There are massage on offer, that our adult children really enjoyed.
There is no gym in the hotel, but they provide a voucher for Bodytech, a local gym nearby, which was absolutely fine.
The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Our only small criticism was the lifts: there are only two and they are quite slow, which can mean a bit of a wait at busy times.
Overall, a lovely hotel in a fantastic location and a great base for exploring Rio.

3-star hotel, not 5
I stayed 15 days at the Hotel Janeiro, so where to start, first of all there is only one person who speaks French in the hotel and that is John, for a 5-star hotel that is not normal, I am well aware that 5 stars in Rio de Janeiro does not equate to our 5 stars in France but still, everyone working at the hotel reception should speak French, Italian, German... it's the minimum, plus Leblon is the French neighborhood of Rio, then normally upon your arrival you are entitled to a welcome cocktail, it is written on their site, we never got it, I mentioned it twice at the reception, without success. The rooms are not soundproofed at all so there is a definite lack of privacy. If you have the misfortune of not putting "do not disturb" on your room door, the housekeepers knock and enter if you do not answer, so being in the shower I was surprised to see a housekeeper in my bathroom, luckily I am not modest. Then breakfast, overall the buffet is decent, the bread is too dry and for me it is not worth 33 euros per person but that is just my opinion. The hotel restaurant is good, you eat well and the service is up to par. The 18th floor which is a rooftop is open 24/7 which is a good point given that I smoke and the rooms do not have a balcony. The pool looks more like a big bathtub than a pool, there is no gym in the hotel but you have the possibility to ask for a free pass at the front desk for a gym that is located next to the hotel. The last day we took a suite at 950 euros a night (room 121), the cleaning was not done correctly, the toilet windows were really dirty, the exterior windows as well, the bathroom mirror too, that is a lot for a suite at that price, the suite is designed like a loft so the bathroom is in the room which is not practical I find, there should have been a separation and the toilets are Japanese-style, I cannot stand these toilets, they constipate me. In short for me the Janeiro hotel does not deserve its 5 stars but rather 3 stars given the lack of services, overall I was disappointed by my stay and will not return, hoping that this review makes you evolve in the right direction.

A spectacular experience
My stay at Janeiro Hotel was truly exceptional from before I even arrived. The team contacted me to learn the details of my trip, ask for my arrival time and shoe size, and offer me a paid airport transfer service, which I decided to book to arrive with greater peace of mind.
I arrived around 9:00 a.m. and, to my surprise, my room was already ready, with no additional charge for early check-in. A team member accompanied me personally to show it to me and also showed me some sandals in my size, explaining that they were a gift from the hotel and that I could take them with me. It was then that I understood why they had previously asked for my shoe size.
The room was spectacular: spacious, with a wonderful view of the sea, a beautiful open shower, and every detail perfectly taken care of. During one of the days of my stay it rained, but even that was planned for: there were umbrellas available in the room, which allowed me to continue enjoying Rio without any inconvenience.
Breakfast is included and is buffet-style, very varied and delicious. It was an excellent way to start each day.
I also loved the evening service. Every night, a maid would come by to prepare the room for sleep and leave me some tea. It is those little details that make the experience feel truly personalized and special.
On the last day, since my flight didn't leave until 8:00 p.m., I requested a late check-out until 6:00 p.m. This service had an additional cost, but it was totally worth it, since I was able to take advantage of the day, return to the hotel calmly, and organize my departure without rushing.
In addition to its privileged location facing the sea, the beauty of the facilities, and the comfort of the rooms, what really distinguishes Janeiro Hotel is the staff's attention: they anticipate the guests' needs and take care of every detail from before arrival until the moment of departure.
Without a doubt, one of the best hotels I have stayed at. I would happily return.
