Great.
It was a great experience!!! We were well served by all staff. Very familiar and cozy environment. The dinner option makes it a lot easier, with the stamp became even more amazing the whole experience in the guesthouse!! They have option to rent a bike and bicycle (quite necessary for the city)

Terrible Experience – Unacceptable Conditions, Misleading Photos, and Refusal to Refund
We had a highly frustrating and disappointing experience at Pousada O Canto Do Francês while traveling with our two young children (ages 5 and 7).
We requested an early check-in for noon, which was denied—perfectly understandable. However, after passing the time exploring the island, we arrived back at 2:30 PM only to be told our room still wasn't ready. We weren't allowed into our room until 3:00 PM.
When we finally entered, the conditions were shocking and completely different from the website photos. The room was incredibly dirty, covered in dust and spider webs. The bedding was stained, the towels were ripped, the room had a foul odor, and it was full of mosquitoes and ants (especially in the bathroom). The pool area was just as neglected, with dirty water and heavily worn-out chairs.
Because of these unhygienic conditions, we felt it was completely unsafe for our family to stay, so we checked out immediately to find alternative lodging. When we requested a refund for the unused nights, the owner, Jean, was incredibly rigid, dismissive, and flatly refused, claiming nothing was wrong with his hotel. He eventually agreed that if he managed to resell our room, he would refund us.
The very next day, I checked their website and confirmed that the exact room we had left was rebooked and no longer available. When I contacted the pousada to arrange the agreed-upon refund, they simply blocked me and stopped answering all of my calls and messages.
I highly recommend families look elsewhere before booking here. The reality does not match the online presentation, and the management by Jean is deeply dishonest, unfair, and unprofessional.

Wonderful hostel!
Wonderful hostel! Calm, cozy and pleasant environment!
We stayed in the room that is called François, beautiful decoration, with a double bed, two single, TV, Wi-Fi, fridge bar ... bathroom! Everything very clean and scented!
Breakfast with many options such as: cakes, cheese bread, breads, eggs, sausage sauce, fruits etc, including with some options prepared at the time.
The hostel restaurant has a diverse menu. All made with a lot of capricho and very tasty!
The staff of the guesthouse are very helpful!

Rather 1* and expensive
The hotel has a nice garden. Rooms are basic but clean. The owner and one of the staff, speak English and French which is nice if you do not master Portuguese. They can also help to book tours.
I had a reservation thru booking for 2 nights but had communicated to the hotel twice before my stay that I needed to cancel the second night. Since their cancellation policy stated that in case of a no show, the first night would be charged, I assumed cancelling upfront a 2nd night would be OK. However, the hotel refused my upfront request. At check-in, I repeated the request, and again they refused to let me in for only 1 night. The staff person initially did honor my request, however the owner, overruled her and said she loses business that way, because the hotel was fully booked. This was a straight lie: when I looked on booking, the still showed availability and so I could tell from the limited number of people on the premises. I took a screenshot of the booking website to proof this and showed the hotel but still they did not want to refund the 2nd night which I had paid at check-in. Booking said I was correct but also their request for a refund, were denied.
In addition to that unfortunate denial of my fair request, the hotel has a serious safety issue with their bikes. The one they gave me, did have 2 breaks, but none of the 2 functioned, which I found out by hitting a tree when a tried to stop it. I returned it, only to find out the next morning when I checked-out they charged me 25 BRL (about 5 EUR), which of course I refused to pay.
Also bear in mind the hotel is far away from the center where you can find the restaurants and a supermarket, so you are kind of isolated.
Breakfast is quite basic: only sweets, no eggs, ham or anything like that. Just a limeted fruit selection and a bit of cake. Rooms are clean but bear in mind the service is rather * at the price of a ***, which is obvious from the worn-out sheets and towels, no shampoos, etc.
Finally: I booked with the hotel a “Fazenda safari” to visit a buffalo ranch, but this was a big scam. It is just a half hour ride on buffalos through a forest and another 15 minutes on the buffalos in the water. The poor animals didn’t look happy, and most of them were skinny and old. Then they were really dragged into the water by a ring in their nose. Horrible! So please think about the animal’s welfare and do NOT book this tour with the hotel, check what others offer.

Simple Inn
The Inn is simple but cozy. The rooms are simple but have fridge bar. The exterior is beautiful, with many plants. There's a pool. The coffee is very simple. The interior area is well cared for and the staff very attentive and polite. Easy to get in different parts of the island.
