Beautiful setting, shame about service to accommodate minor requests

The hotel setting is stunning and the rooms are spacious and contemporary, beautifully done. The pool and its view is stunning and although it was cloudy on our visit, the pool was heated and very warm and still well worth a Swim!!
Of note, it’s a 15 minute uber back to main town to access lots of restaurants, it’s worth the uber!
Our only negative was around breakfast. Available 730 onwards, we had an ealry departure and asked for some simple breakfast eg milk and cereal, at
7am or even to be available in our room , (esp as breakfast included in rate), but this could not be provided as “ no kitchen staff” which felt unhelpful and clearly not true as staff pepping breakfast ready for 7:30. Very disappointed about this and we only received an apology once we had left. Such a shame as the rest of the stay had been great

Place sensatesalll!!! I've never, ever, ever even stayed in a hotel with such amazing staff. Fernando is an unusual guy, he is the soul of the Hotel Catalina. Ossimar, Stefanie, Juan, Vinicius, Clarie, all, without exception, are wonderful. It's worth every cent invested in hosting. Me and my mother will be back soon and with the grace of God!

Very good but does not compensate for the amount charged

Place with a beautiful view and very good service. But it does not compensate for the amount charged. We had problems with the shower not to heat and other details that would go blank if the charged amount was not equivalent to an all inclusive hotel.

Generally a nice hotel - but beware of the pricing !

We spent 5 days at the Catalina. In general we experienced it to be a decent hotel, with mostly friendly staff (some do speak English), a good dinner restaurant overseeing a very nice bay / beach.
If you do not mind the room facilities to be a bit dated (rusty washroom bin, stained sink) and do not care too much for amenities such as a set breakfast table or a serviceable hotel bar offering some charm, it might be a place for you.
However, do not fall in the trap of paying for more than what it is: a 4 star hotel (by European standards rather 3 star). Unfortunately, we made that mistake. Based on reviews & old pictures, we paid 6 months in advance ca. 1.800 BRL per night for a double room with balcony. At the time of our stay the same room was offered for 700 to 800 BRL - which is still not favourable compared to the great hotels we stayed in during our Brazil trip.
When we tried to contact the management to discuss some issues with our room and the pricing, the hotel manager simply refused to talk to us over the course of 4 days. Although front desk staff was professional and visibly embarrased about the attitude and behaviour of their manager - we received no signal of appreciation or courtesy whatsoever.
