Quiet and excellent value
Lovely quiet location, excellent value. A little way out of the city at the foot of the Vitosha mountains but right next to a frequent bus service running into Sofia every 15 minutes or so.
Great WiFi and cable TV with quite a few English language options.
Here' s the idiots guide how to get there if you arrive by air....
If you arrive at Terminal 1, there is a free shuttle bus to Terminal 2 where the Metro starts.
Take the yellow line to Serdica and then change to the blue line to Vitosha (end of the line). Get off Metro. You are now at the Paradise Center (shopping mall)
Make sure you are on the main road looking up the road towards the Vitosha mountains. Paradise Mall is on your right and Mini showroom is on your left.
Take the 98 bus all the way up to Villa Pontica. Use Google Maps to determine what stop.
It's right there facing the road.
Metro is 1.60 Lev and you can use your debit or credit card. Make sure you use a separate card for each person.
Bus is also 1.60 and use a separate card for each person.
PS. At the time of writing 1.60 Lev is about 72p. Outstanding!
Villa supermarket down the road from Villa Pontica is also recommended. Check out The Cheese Box near Billa for nice coffee and cakes too

Stay here only if you have a car
The room was clean and amenities were fine other than that we were told not to drink the water (after we had already done so!). This place is quite a way out of the city so I would only recommend to those with a car. We took taxis which should only be done in Sofia by those with a death wish.

Quiet retreat from busy city centre
This is basic / budget accommodation some way out of the city centre of Sofia. We arrived late, flight delayed and the owner was good enough to wait for us even though it was approaching 1am. The transfer cost was 18 Euro which we could not find cheaper online [although not a reflection of the price of travel generally in Bulgaria which is pretty cheap] If you are coming from the centre you need to get the Metro from Serdika to the Paradise Shopping Mall [Vitosha station 1.80Lev which you pay for at a machine prior to going through the gates] You then get a bus to the Vila Pontica. Can't remember the number now but contact the Vila who will give you the number and the name of the stop [something like 'Green Pines' in Bulgarian] Anyway onto the accommodation: the rooms are basic but clean. There is a good view across the city although the road can be a little noisy. As a big tea drinker I was disappointed that there was no kettle in the room but the owner will make you a coffee, however it does feel a little like you are sitting in their personal living space! Room was cleaned once in 4 days which was fine. Bottled water was provided. The shower took some time to heat up and one day of the 4 it was hardly even warm. I wouldn't let this put me off though travelling back and forth to the centre daily did become a bit of a chore especially with tired feet after a hard days site seeing. Having said that, travel is part of the experience. The Metro was clean and efficient. The buses mostly where on time although drivers couldn't always be bothered to take your money! Top tip: get the bus to town as usual just over the road from the Vila but get off at the red / grey supermarket 'Fantastico' on your left - now walk to the dual carriageway a short distance and turn right to the bus stop a little further down get the next bus and get off at the Mall / IKEA - walk out of the back of the IKEA car park and through the unfinished park. Keep going 10 mins to the green Ski-Lift terminal - you'll be able to see the Gondolas as they are painted communist orange! The return trip to the top of Vitosha is 5GBP could not believe it. Amazing mountain top views, powder dry snow and glorious sunshine. Highlight of our Sofia trip for sure and a 'Must Do'

Lovely location and friendly owners.
We stayed here for four nights as we had hired a car and wanted to both explore the city and the mountain.
Nice view of the city, friendly owner who will always offer free tea and coffee when you go in, which is perfect with the cold weather.
Room is small but clean and had everything we needed.

Nice view of Sofia
We enjoyed the location, overlooking Sofia. As our flight arrived in the evening and we planned to leave Sofia in the morning to travel around it was perfect for us, in order not to get into the busier center of the city and actually have a nice view of the city (though not recommended for those who want to travel in Sofia).
The woman who runs this home-stay is very nice (though her English is not very good, she tries), they don't offer breakfast but they have coffee and tea in the morning.
There is a small supermarket nearby, where you can get supplies for your trip.
The rooms are very basic and relatively small, but considering the view and the price i think it is a good value for money (for us the location was great also).
What we didn't like was the fact that there was no A/C nor ceiling or normal fan, and at the end of June it was a bit warm to stay there (i guess in July & August it's even worse)
