How can the leading position of the Czech brewing industry be destroyed? How can we prevent the great tradition of Czech beer culture from being lost?
It was not long ago that a guest in a restaurant or inn had the opportunity to choose from a wide selection of Czech beers. Well-known names such as Gambrinus, Pilsner Urquell, Budvar, Kozel, Staropramen and many more were available. Everyone often enjoyed his “Pivíčko” to the fullest. Tourists from all over the world also shared the Czech love of quality beers.
Today, they are often fobbed off with Pilsner Urquell, which prevents many guests from further consumption due to its high bitterness. In addition, there are instant beers from small breweries that do not have their own malthouse or fermentation tanks. Even more serious is the fact that amateurs venture into brewing who may not even have heard of the possibility of a necessary vocational training at the SVP in Podskalská Street or, even better, at the VSCHT in Dejvice.

Just as the Czech Republic lost its leading sugar production within a few years, the world-famous position of Czech beer that our ancestors built up over centuries is irretrievably rendered irrelevant. Too bad!
Another tip: If you want to enjoy the good Staropramen, go on holiday in Černá Hora – and not just there. Quality is a top priority abroad. At every turn you will encounter a delicious greeting from Bohemia.

The B&B is located right in the centre of Melnik, with plenty of free parking nearby.
The apartment we booked had everything that you’d need, although felt quite basic. The pillows were the most uncomfortable I have ever come across in any accommodation and the beds were not super comfortable either. There were also no blackout curtains, so the room was very light in the morning.
Breakfast was excellent, with a pretty impressive spread. We didn’t get to try the pub the B&B is attached to, but feedback from others was great.
