A gem of a hotel
This island hotel is a real gem. When checking into our room, I was extremely distressed when I realized the AC was not working (it was in the mid 80's and quite humid outside). I told the front desk and they said all the rooms were full, but they would have the maintenance man come by. We were booked for a 3 day stay and I was mentally melting down thinking that on a small island, what were the chances that this could be resolved in a timely manner? To my surprise and delight, the maintenance man had a new room AC until installed and working perfectly within 2-3 hours. I was amazed and forever grateful as we had a packed schedule and needed sleep! In addition to that, the hotel staff were all pleasant and accomodating. The patio was delightful with lounge chairs, tables and a beautiful view. The rooms were very clean. I highly recommend this hotel!

Looks amazing — but will you actually get to stay there?
Isamar appears to be a beautiful property and I have no doubt many guests have wonderful experiences here. Sadly we never got to find out.
I booked Isamar in March 2025 for a 16-night stay in May 2026 — over a year in advance. We specifically chose Isamar for its unique location and what it offered — this wasn't a random booking, it was a deliberate choice central to our entire Galapagos itinerary. This was a carefully planned once-in-a-lifetime trip.
I emailed the hotel days before arrival to confirm our booking and provide our arrival time. No issues were flagged.
We arrived to be told our room had been given away. The hotel had accepted a group booking and moved us without any notice to their sister property, Albemarle — because apparently it was "better than what we paid." We were not consulted, not warned, and not given a choice.
The substitute property was significantly inferior — no private beach, facing a busy public road, a dark room with one small window, and a soccer field with floodlights shining in all night. When we raised our concerns we were told to be "grateful for what we paid" and that nothing would be done.
It was 6pm on a Sunday evening in the Galapagos. We had to scramble desperately to find alternative accommodation at considerable extra cost and stress — not exactly how you want to start a dream holiday you've been planning for over a year.
Note: The original booking was refunded through Airbnb — however a refund does not compensate for the additional costs we incurred finding last minute replacement accommodation, nor the stress and panic of being stranded at 6pm on a Sunday in the Galapagos. The matter remains unresolved.
If you do book Isamar, I sincerely hope you actually get to stay there. Based on our experience, that is not something you can take for granted.

It’s on the beach but that’s about the only positive.
We spent three nights at this hotel and it was not a particularly positive experience.
It’s on the beach and you can sit and watch the waves or just trot down to the water. All very relaxed. That’s a positive.
The hotel is a bit tired and in need of some love. The rooms were ok and the showers produced hot water when needed. The doors did not feel very secure.
Breakfast was as basic as it could be (the most basic we have had in over two months in South America on this trip). Recognising the logistical difficulties of the location it still could have offered a better choice. Isabela is pretty isolated but deals with many tourists. It all looked a little end of the week before the new supplies arrived!
I am celiac and food provision for me was just poor. They know in advance and were told on multiple occasions. Day one I was offered some vegetables (not a normal breakfast staple for me) there were of course eggs , but that was it. My boxed breakfast was an apple (I kid you not) there was lots of gluten containing stuff though.
We ate lunch and dinner out of the hotel with no issues and I feel that was the best option. I will post other reviews!

Excellent location
An 8 min walk from the port. Beach front location was perfect.
Unfortunatly the aircon dining was not working and it was very humid, the staff offered a transfer to their sister hotel the Albermal a couple of minutes away.
It looked great and the staff were great, though we didn’t experience the hotel. But the fact they offered an alternative was high up there for me.
