Peaceful and refreshing stay
We had a lovely three night stay at this lodge. The lodges were very comfortable and quiet, with comfortable beds, warm showers and a couch to sit and contemplate nature and life.
The staff were friendly and lovely. The restaurant was very nice for dinner, with the bolognaise, pesto, trout and breaded shrimp all winners. Breakfast was decent too, with fresh fruit, granola, pancakes and eggs.
We left feeling very refreshed and ready for the next part of our holiday. The games room was also a nice bonus, with a pool table, cards and board games.
The staff were friendly and lovely. The restaurant was very nice for dinner, with the bolognaise, pesto, trout and breaded shrimp all winners. Breakfast was decent too, with fresh fruit, granola, pancakes and eggs.
We left feeling very refreshed and ready for the next part of our holiday. The games room was also a nice bonus, with a pool table, cards and board games.

Comfortable birding lodge in good location. We'd stay here again.
Overall:
The location and grounds were perfect for birding, which was our primary purpose and a focus of this review.
Pros:
There are two moth blinds (only one was being used when we were there), a canopy tower, and a trail down to a river (the trail appeared to go up the other side of the valley, but we didn't investigate). Good hummingbird feeders and a fruit feeder are at the front of the building. We were one of maybe only two families staying at the lodge in August - so we had the whole place to ourselves it seemed. I'm sure
Food was good for breakfast and dinners. Our cabin was the last cabin down the hill which felt really isolated (good) until they put another family into the other half of our building on the last night (that seemed very unnecessary since most all the other cabins were empty).
There was no coffee maker in the room initially, but when I asked about coffee at reception, they brought down a coffee maker for the room - that was really nice. So just ask.
Room was clean, the bathroom had shelf space (a rarity!) and the bed was comfortable.
Cons:
Not much not to like here, but there a couple of suggestions for changes. There was no screened porch or anything like that for the cabin that would let you enjoy the great location down there. Even the small shared porch area had only hard stools usable only to sit on to take off shoes. Some sort of comfortable outside seating at the cabin would have been appreciated.
Misc:
There is a pool that we didn't make use of. Since it was so vacant, they kept it covered but would open it up if we told them we planned on using it.
Some lodges have bird experts on staff that hang around and point out sightings, but nothing like that while we were there. I think most people hire their own guides when they visit. For some variety, the San Tadeo hotspot is just down the road and is walkable or just a cheap taxi ride away.
The river trail is a fairly wide rocky path with switchbacks down the hill. There was another long trail down to the inactive moth blind that is constructed with inverted soda cases filled with sand to make steps. We discovered this too late to bird it, but it goes deep into the forest and should be really good.
The lodge/reception/restaurant floors are wood and you must take shoes off to enter, or put on the handy shoe covers that they provide.

You want it? you pay for it.
Luxury lodge & high meal prices adjacent to highway, staff cool & a bit haughty, bungalows have comfortable beds & hot showers. Remote UV-light attraction sheet at 6a.m. attracts excellent selection of birds (umbrella birds & trogon), good syrup/fruit/grain feeders near lodge with several agouti 'in residence'.

3 days on our trip to Ecuador
3 nights during our trip to Ecuador, very nice lodge, very welcome and excellent food.
We were accompanied by 2 ornithological guides the outings were perfect.
We highly recommend it.

Lovely place, pure connection with nature and excellent food.
I loved the experience. The hotel is beautiful has internal walking routes and its bird watching spaces are amazing. All the staff are very friendly. It is also super located, on the side of the road and with stunning views. Also, his restaurant is very good
