Perfect.

The Scandic Grand Hotel is a beautiful, old, venerable hotel.
Clean, large rooms (there is just no German television or NTV).
DSD staff is very attentive and helpful.
Would love to come back.

Perfectly Placed, Impressively Quiet – A Great Helsinki Stay

Stayed at the Grand Central Hotel in Helsinki and loved it. It’s right next to the railway station, so getting around is ridiculously easy.
Check‑in was smooth, friendly, and the reception area feels modern and open, with the option to use a kiosk if you prefer. The staff were brilliant, switching into perfect English instantly, which is ideal because my Finnish is basically two words.
Our third‑floor double room was stylish and comfortable, and even though it overlooked the railway, it was unbelievably quiet. I’ve stayed near King’s Cross plenty of times and this was on another level.
Breakfast had loads of choice, and while we didn’t eat other meals there, the morning options were great.
Overall, super convenient, great service, and a genuinely pleasant stay.
Would absolutely return.

Lovely hotel. Fantastic Breakfast. Challenging signage.

We had a very good stay at the Scandic Grand Central Helsinki, largely thanks to its excellent location and dining. Being right next to the central station made getting around incredibly easy, and we were steps away from everything in downtown Helsinki.
The breakfast was a major highlight of our stay. The selection was extensive, and the quality of the food was outstanding.
Our only real issue was navigating to our room. It was located in another building across a courtyard, and the signage was very limited. Better directional signs would go a long way in helping guests find their way around the property. That aside, we highly recommend it for its comfort and convenience.

The receptionist was very kind and assisted us with preordering an early morning taxi, finding a good restaurant with local cuisine and making a reservation for us. The whole experience of checking in was exceptional. The location of the hotel is really central as its name suggests. Highly recommended.

Historic stay in Helsinki

Hi gang,
Wow !! First time in Finland. Enroute eventually to board the NCL Sun for a week long Baltic Sea cruise.
Located in the corner of a historic square, adjacent to the train station, grand museum, a super market and a rip-off casino the first thing you notice are the steep steps into the hotel.
Unfortunately my knees decided to rebel against my efforts for enjoy the walking so I had to ease my way up/down the historic steps.
Everything is within reasonable walking distance and the surrounding building are fraught with colorful architecture and history, it’s a real treat to enjoy. The nearby casino is a recipe for frustration. First they scan your passport (why ???) second, photograph, 3rd had to check my wife’s coat and my baseball hat (why ??), fourth complete a questionaire disclosing your source if income and how much you intend to lose- - I mean spend, at the casino and lastly if you’re a politician or government worker…..what a crock !! It’s gov’t funded as a non-profit. Excuse me, it’s a casino. Wouldn’t a non-profit give you back your money ??
The hotel is modern, check I took a while, the rooms are in the smaller side. Long hallways are identical framed in by the 1920’s wooden doors re-purposed from the renovation onto a hotel from the service of being an old train office structure.
Breakfast is widely varied, a pmethora of local and regional flavors. Some of the food is served cold, a switch from normal Western ways, but to fully embrace the culture here and immerse oneself into the Finnish vibe.
A fun place to stay.
