Highly recommended
Very nice relaxed hotel, not in the center, but very well accessible by several bus lines, also on foot

Avoid if you want to be sure to sleep
A deeply disappointing stay. I booked four nights, but on the final night I checked out at around 10 p.m. and paid €100 for a room at another hotel because I could no longer sleep in the room I had been given.
The first issue was light. In summer in Oulu, it does not get properly dark at night, and the curtains in my room did not block out enough light for sleep. Perhaps this does not bother everyone, but for me it made the first three nights difficult.
The final night was the real problem. My room was connected to the adjacent room by an internal door, and the sound insulation was extremely poor, to put it mildly. A family with an infant was placed in the room next to mine, and the crying was clearly audible through the wall/door, only letting up for 15-20 minutes at a time. Given how badly I had already slept, I knew there was no realistic way I would sleep there.
I went to reception and asked whether I could be moved to another room, whether they had earplugs, a white-noise machine, or any other solution. Nothing. I asked whether the hotel had a policy for noise disturbances, and after I explained what I meant, I was told: “Sir, it’s a baby.”
I returned later and explained again that the hotel’s core service is sleep, and that I could not sleep in that room. I was then told that this is an old building and that noise travels, but also that the hotel has newer, soundproofed rooms in another building. These were of course already booked – and the hotel lacked the basic foresight to put a screaming infant in one of the rooms with better soundproofing.
So I checked out late at night and walked across the city to another hotel in order to salvage what sleep I could before travelling the next day. No partial refund or compensation was offered.
The breakfast was also nothing special. During my previous stay in Oulu, the Best Western had a much larger and better-quality buffet.

Not a sleep…
my stay was not very successful. the wall between the hotel room and the other room is really poorly soundproofed. in the next room two men were talking loudly until 03:00. the night's sleep was really short and it was difficult to concentrate on an important work meeting that morning. if you value a good night's sleep then this hotel is not the right one.
the breakfast is not rich. the flavors are just ok. there could be more of a warm breakfast than just oatmeal porridge and coffee. Afternoon tea was a nice little addition to the early evening.
