Shops and neighborhood life
What pleasantly surprised me is how accessible everything is on foot from this hotel. The bakery is two minutes away, there are restaurants of all styles within five minutes, grocery stores, a pharmacy, and even a few nice shops. I didn't have a car and I didn't feel limited for a single second. The bus from the train station dropped me off almost at the door. For someone who travels without a car like me, this is really appreciated. The room was clean and functional, the breakfast was decent with real bakery croissants. Alexandra and Laurent are very attentive; they even recommended a restaurant for the evening where I had a great meal. This kind of small hotel is a refreshing change from chains.

A lot to say!!!
First, no welcome was given to us, just a simple message to give us the access codes and inform us of the receptionist's absence. That's a first for me!
The room that was assigned to us has many defects, which for me deserve to be mentioned.
First of all, if you are coming with a lot of luggage, good luck to you carrying it up two floors because no elevator is provided. In the room, there are traces of dirt on the ceiling around the fire alarm and the maintenance of the wood around the windows leaves something to be desired.
During a heatwave, you think you can cool off, but no, water leaks from the air conditioning after 10-15 minutes of use. The water even runs down to the light switch, which is very dangerous. You think you can rest quietly in complete privacy, impossible, you hear everything that happens in the hotel, sounds of footsteps, suitcases, even conversations from neighboring rooms; this was one of the worst inconveniences in my opinion.
A narrow bathroom; my partner who is 1.85m tall could not even crouch in the shower, and even I, being shorter in height, had difficulty moving around due to the lack of space. A temperamental shower head; there is no middle ground for the temperature, freezing or scalding, the choice is yours. A nightmarish floor in some places; one might think there are passages to cross to the ceiling below. For the price of the reservation (€89), a higher-quality television would have been appreciated.
The only positive point comes at a cost, which is the breakfast that is not included in the room reservation (€10/person); it was very complete for starting the day, served by the morning receptionist who was very cordial. Despite everything, an apology for the absence of a receptionist the day before would have pleased me.
PS: the water dispenser leaks as much as the A/C. And mosquitoes will be part of the experience.

Tiny room. Doors hit bed it was so small. Shower had cracks. Curtains about 50 years old. Bed creak. Just incredibly uncomfortable. I should have stayed in a tent.

Friendly hotel located just steps from the castle park.
Stay at the Carpe d'Or for 4 nights, late May/early June 2026.
Quiet, clean hotel.
Ideal location just steps from the castle park and the center of Fontainebleau (numerous restaurants).
Friendly manager, ready to help (printing of one or another document, ...).
I would gladly return there.

This appears to be a run by a husband and wife so Not only does checkin start at 4pm, but there is no one at the hotel until then so there is no place to leave bags. Also the internet was incredibly slow and unreliable which the owner acknowledged.
