Lovely Guest House in Rural Cognac

Beautiful old renovated house that accepts guests deep within the rural Cognac region.
Our room was large, very comfortable and overlooked the large gardens at the front of the house. Shandra (our hostess) was very friendly and welcoming and provided a very good breakfast. I highly recommend trying her delicious homemade jams.

A nice place to relax and enjoy good food

With a group of friends, we spent four days at Domaine du Pladuc. We appreciated the charm of the place with its magnificent bastide nestled in a bucolic park where a river flows. The location is peaceful and strategically positioned in relation to tourist attractions. The couple who manage the establishment (Réunionese who have become more Charentais than the locals) are completely attentive to the clientele. We opted for the half-board option and were able to enjoy Reunionese cuisine and hearty breakfasts in the large dining room.

One of our best meals this year, a very good memory

Very pretty old house restored in a relaxing green setting. Warm welcome by the couple of owners, open to discussions.
Delicious meal with Reunion specialties, prepared by people who know this culinary tradition very well.

Warm welcome, charming hosts, excellent stay

Very pleasant 5-day stay, the hosts are very charming, the rooms warm and spacious, all this in a splendid setting. Special mention to the rougail sausage, a Reunionese dish enjoyed during dinner, which was a real treat (just as much as breakfast and its famous Reunion fruit jams)
In short, a big thank you to Shandra and Bernard for this exceptional stay.

Cher Patrick cet avis nous va droit au cœur et nous conforte dans notre façon d'accueillir nos hôtes au Domaine de Pladuc. Il y a bientôt 26 mois que nous avons décidé de changer de vie en venant nous installer en Charente, à 9000 kms de La Réunion, notre île de coeur, et nous avons eu un véritable coup de foudre pour cette belle demeure enserrée dans un parc magnifique. L'atmosphère y est sereine et propre à se ressourcer. Les jours s'écoulent paisiblement comme la rivière qui traverse la propriété. Nous sommes heureux que vous ayez ressenti cette magie. Contents aussi que le rougail de saucisses vous ait plu Notre fournisseur est un charcutier Réunionnais et ses saucisses sont vraiment fameuses !
Nous avons aimé partager avec vous des souvenirs communs sur cette belle île de La Réunion dont nous souhaitons être aujourd'hui les ambassadeurs dans notre nouvelle terre d'adoption. Espérant avoir le plaisir de vous revoir lors d'un prochain séjour pour vous faire découvrir d'autres pépites de cette belle région charentaise qui offre à ses visiteurs une douceur de vivre incomparable. The Reviews Do Not Lie! A Beautiful Location and Super-Friendly Hosts

With the exceptional reviews and scores, I was a bit sceptical when booking. But I was overjoyed to discover that everything is true!
The location is idyllic - located a stone's thrown from Cognac but out in the countryside, i.e., out in the country! Upon arrival, guests drive onto the property through a tall stone archway with a cypress tree on each side. What an introduction! See photos.
The Domaine de Pladuc, dating from the mid-18th century, used to be a cognac distillery. The house's architecture is wonderful, classic. See photos. You open the front door and find what appears to be the original spiral staircase leading to the 2nd floor. Wonderful. On the property is a river, and is amid lots of beautiful trees. On the property are a number of interesting buildings previously used to make and store cognac in the distant past.
There is a nice grass area in front of the house for kids. There is also a well-maintained swimming pool with a covered patio area complete with tables and a Weber gas grill.
Parking is on-site, within the confines of the property.
Cognac is a short 20 or so drive from the Domaine de Pladuc. It has its fair share of bars and restaurants. As per French health rules, you will need your Covid passport QR to be served, even outdoors.
One town I enjoyed in the area was Jonzac which, again, was probably 20 minutes away. Lots of nice architecture. The Rue de Champagnac was interesting - a medieval street (basically a series of tunnels). Curious.
The lovely young couple that runs the Domaine de Pladuc have not had it for very long. But they are enthusiastic and very passionate about their project and try their best to keep their guests happy. They obviously love what they do and the guests can feel that.
Food. Breakfast was included. In my case, I had a jumbo expresso with bread with cheese and jam. If you want to eat at the hotel, give them a bit of notice and they will be happy to cook for you. The couple lived on the Indian Ocean island of La Reunion for years and, given the photos posted, they seem to know what they are doing! Next time, I will ask them to prepare me something.
The Domaine de Pladuc was listed on my TomTom GPS device so I had no difficulty finding the hotel. I believe WAZE also has it listed. Note that the house has a Lachaise mailing address though the town itself is around 1km away. Search for Pladuc. I saw GPS coordinates given for the hotel on a French website. I suspect they couple can also provide it if you contact them.
The couple is French but they speak both French and decent English. Thankfully!! They are very open, friendly, and love to chat. I could go on but this is enough. I will definitely return next year.
Internet. The hotel has free wifi though I did not need it. I used my phone. Some comments indicate wifi coverage within the house is spotty, which may be the case. The owners are trying to sort it out. It is an old house with thick walls. Coincidentally, fiber optic cable was being installed out on the street during my visit so I assume that should improve connectivity in the near future.
This is small, family-owned operation with the advantages and disadvantages inherent to such. To me, it adds charm and humanity. You become part of the family.
Various towns nearby (10-20 kms), including Cognac, for those interested in bars and restaurants. I got a kebab in nearby Barbezieux. Nice castle there, too.

The Domaine de Pladuc is indeed ideally located 1 hour from Bordeaux, 20 minutes from Cognac and only 10 minutes from Barbezieux (which can be very useful for enjoying an excellent kebab) and very well indicated on google Maps. You were a very friendly host and we will be happy to see you again in Pladuc for another stay. SG and BG
