Short stop this time but been before
Le grand balcon is an excellent choice. I have stayed with family during the ski season previously. The skiing is great with superb beginner slops and more advance runs including the Kandahar. The apartments are suitably equipped, warm and comfortable.
The views through the valley are breathtaking.
This stop was for only a couple of nights during the summer. It is still absolutely beautiful, just wish I had taken my mountain bike so I could have cycled down the mountain.
I would thorough advise le grand balcon.

Great Value! Magnificent Views of Mont Blanc!
My husband and I have stayed in studio apartments in Chalet number 7 for three consecutive visits and plan to come back for more next year. Chamonix is prohibitively expensive for long term stays in the area, and we like to stay at least a week to take advantage of all the great hikes in the summer. Chalets Le Grand Balcon gives you the experience of living in your own private chalet, but the rates are profoundly more reasonable than what it costs to stay in Chamonix. However, you do not need a car to stay here. This is extremely convenient to get to Chamonix. Les Houches is only a fifteen minute bus ride away, and the #1 bus stops right outside the Chalets Le Grand Balcon, which means door to door service into the center of Chamonix.
The chalets are gorgeous, authentically and tastefully decorated in the traditional style. There is a fully equipped kitchen, although the stove is only two burners and the fridge not full sized. The bathroom is spacious and clean with elegant fixtures. Many of the balconies look directly out at Mont Blanc--a stunning backdrop! We cooked fondue and dined on the balcony every night.
The manager is very accessible, friendly, and helpful. There is no wifi, but you can't beat the price and there are plenty of internet cafes in Chamonix. We highly recommend this to travelers looking to save money but who don't want to compromise on quality. Visit us at Extremetelecommuters.com

Good value for money but getting tired.
The good bits. Close to the slopes, close to the bars and restaurants. The heating is all electic and works well. New TV with two UK channels. Low price.
The bad bits: No WIFI, shower tray broken, kitchen far too small (its located in a wardrobe), parking on first come basis.
In desperate need of a revamp, but then the prices will go up too.
The "Bar Spot" is the closest WIFI about 300yards away,

Not so great on our second visit
I have previously reviewed Le Grand Balcon - we stayed last year and were very happy. This year we decided to upgrade to a 2 bedroom apartment rather than have bunks in the coridoor for our teenage daughters. This time we were shown to an apartment in Chalet 7 - I could have wept when we were shown the apartment this time, despite being more expensive it was not much bigger than the 1 bedroom apartment we had last year, it was barely furnished with no home comforts what so ever, not even bedside lamps or lamps in the sitting area. The bathroom consisted of a shower with a cracked shower tray that would not look out of place in hostel for the homeless! We complained and with very bad grace it was agreed that we could move back to the 1 bedroom apartment we had last year (103 in Chalet 3) - no refund was offered for the extra we had paid. This is well equipped and warm and comfortable, but obviously doesn't have the extra room we were after. The photos on Grand Balcon website show this apartment on their website and we assumed that the other photos were of the bigger apartment we were booking - but they most definately are not. We love Les Houches, but I'm not sure we would stay here again, we have since discovered that there are many other more modern apartments available at the same sort of price and some much closed to the Prairon ski lift.
