Home from Home

A little gem of an accommodation. Great location in the Old Town, a few minutes from the beach at Nea Chora and perfectly situated in terms of access to restaurants and shops. The harbour is perhaps 3 minutes away but just on Theotokopoulou, which is the adjoining street, you are spoilt for choice. At the corner of Ritzou Andrea and Theotokopoulou is The Botanist. It's just perfect for a leisurely breakfast looking out to the sea. Diagonally across from there is Oinoa which is one of Chania's , indeed Crete's, most impressive restaurants. Steak Tartare was amazing, as was sea bass in, I think, tarragon sauce. But back to the accommodation. It's split over 3 levels with 2 separate bathrooms, a balcony and a roof terrace. Everything that you actually need is in the apartment. In terms of cooking there is a 2 ring stove and a little grill in the Property. We used these to make breakfast but you really need to get out and try the local places. There is a lovely little family bakery just along from the apartment called Kormoranos. It's also great for breakfast. I can't fault the location as it's well placed to fully enjoy Chania and Eleni was a fantastic hostess. The area has also got some of the best shops in the Old Town and you could miss it if you didn't wander off the harbour area. Highly recommend L&O gifts, Favela jewellery and YoYo for quirky but very unique items. All of which are on your doorstep. Don't get me started on the rest of Chania. We'd be here all day.

Lovely old town house with sea views

The house is in a great location just a short walk from the harbour and is on 3 floors with kitchen and a bathroom as you enter from the street. The kitchen is small but well enough equipped for a holiday. There is a table and two chairs outside plus a balcony off the first floor bedroom and a large terrace with sea views on the top floor off the bedroom. We were two couples and as we had booked the trip were given the option of bedrooms so we chose the top floor as the bathroom is en suite whereas the first floor bedroom uses the ground floor bathroom. Also the large terrace off the top floor bedroom is a great bonus. The four of us had a nightcap on there after our evenings out. It was also great to be able to dry some hand washed items on the washing rack provided. The decor is a mix of traditional and modern and the beds were super comfy. We looked at the label (Ikea) to see if we could get the same mattresses back home as we need to replace ours. The air con was a great addition but we didn't need to use it all the time. A nice touch was beer and water in the fridge which was a welcome treat after a long journey to get there and the host was very charming showing us around the property and helpfully suggesting nice places to eat.
