Agriturismo San Mauro: excellence, taste and unforgettable hospitality
We were greeted with exceptional hospitality: the care and attention to guests are evident already on arrival. Our little girl was handed a farm-themed booklet with colored pencils, a simple but extremely thoughtful gesture that made the experience even more special.
Lunch was a real joy for the palate. The appetizer, with homemade ham, zucchini and boškarin carpaccio, was fresh, tasty and prepared with genuine ingredients.
First we shared a perfectly balanced portion of black truffle fuži with an enveloping aroma.
The main course was the real protagonist: cut with rocket and flakes of Parmesan cheese and grilled ribeye, with an inimitable taste that brought us back to our last similar experience in Argentina in 2017. The meat was juicy and tasty, enhanced by the home-grown extra virgin olive oil, including a squeezed juice from just three days ago, with a spicy aftertaste, and fine salt. A true gastronomic masterpiece, worthy of the best culinary experiences.
Finally, two delicious desserts: palačinke with two types of homemade jams and a creamy and perfect pannacotta.
All this was accompanied by a selection of wines offered by the house: first a bottle of excellent merlot with a slight barrique taste, then another bottle of equally fine terrano, also slightly barricaded. We also consumed a Radenska, a liter of Momiano water, and for the little girl half a liter of homemade elderberry juice.
Finally, despite the outstanding quality of the food, Welcoming and Wines, the bill was surprisingly affordable.
Agriturismo San Mauro is a real jewel, where taste, authenticity and hospitality meet. We will definitely return with our gourmet friends and would recommend it without hesitation to anyone who wants to live an authentic and memorable dining experience.

An experience to forget as soon as possible..... aperitif (6 glasses of disgusting wine) appetizer for 3 people calculated as for 6....6 pastas with black truffle (fortunately) paid as if they were diamonds in Monaco... service I'd better not tell you about it... pepi I was skiing in Trieste and it's 5 stars in comparison... waste wine and disgusting too... paid only €350 for 6 obviously on cheese paper so receipt to forget... .if I come back only if I'm drunk from an ethyl coma... you do it

Truffle wins
Family-run farmhouse.
The winery of the Sincovich family is linked to the farm, a noble family that originated in the Croatian region already with the Illyrian people.
The farm offers you its excellent wines, decidedly superior to other local wines, and dishes based on Istrian truffles, from aperitifs to pasta (handmade fusi or strozzapreti), and the excellent barbecued meat that they cook in the fireplace in the main room , in front of the guests.
The Sincovich brothers stand out for their ability to convey empathy and to be able to explain complicated dishes with extreme simplicity.
The prices are certainly not low but if you eat truffles those are!!
Depending on the season, obviously their truffles will be more or less tasty but always fresh.
They are closed during the harvest period.
In any case, service, food, wines and digestives (always produced by them) are excellent.
If you have time, we recommend shopping in the nearby shop, attached to the property, where you can find high quality wine products.

Intimate retreat with personal service
I have had the honor of staying at the San Mauro estate twice now - once as a romantic retreat with my husband some years ago (when we decided we HAD to return some day), and second time most recently (Sept 2019), with our two children and extended family. It is worth noting that this is a big trip for us from the U.S. and worth it.
It is a very intimate experience with beautiful views, a historic church on site, personal service from the Sinkovic family, incredible small-batch wines, and an on-site restaurant serving homemade Istrian food. The rooms are not luxury (ex: no A/C or laundry), but are very clean and includes small kitchenettes if you want to bring some basic foods with you. The stay is comfortable and affordable, and includes a lovely breakfast in the morning in their restaurant or balcony. They even provided us an in-room breakfast take-away option when we had to leave incredibly early on our last day.
Regarding children: though the hotel does not offer "kids activities," we brought our 5 and 7 year-olds and they were easily entertained by the truffle pigs and exploring the beautiful grounds on-site, and by taking day trips to nearby villages in the area.
Lastly, we asked for support with the Sinkovic family (Sergej and his brother are fantastic and both speak English, Croatian, Italian, and German) to organize some activities for our group and they really outdid themselves, with very little direction from us. They coordinated multiple wine tastings and meals at nearby villages and wineries, bikes for cycling through the wine country, and hosted a ceremony and party for our group with gorgeous flowers, appetizers, drinks, and a 6-course meal following the ceremony. Flowing wine, incredible conversations, and food that will not be forgotten.
Tip: I encourage you to reach out to Sergej or the family to customize your experience. We consider them friends - they are that inviting. Enjoy!

Truffle heaven
We were invited here as part of our close friends' 10th anniversary celebration. The owners were incredibly hospitable and the food was plentiful and delicious. The owner's wine is excellent as well. This property is in a tiny village that sits in Croatia's wine country. It feels a lot like Chianti in Italy or Sonoma Valley in California. The rooms are comfortable and breezy, with nice balconies with views over the surrounding country side. Several large hogs live outside (they are used to find the truffles), they amuse the kids and provide good photo subjects.
