Paradise in June

Quite simply, this was one of the most idyllic, beautiful and relaxing holiday's we have had in years. We were greeted on arrival by Toni the owner of the Bokun guesthouse. The welcome was wonderful, as Toni talked us through places to visit, eat etc over a chilled beer. This laid back, warm, witty and friendly approach put us at ease and set us up perfectly for the most stunning holiday to come!! The guest house was clean, fully air conditioned and modern. Toni's family and house keeper have you space but we're always there if needed. The buffet breakfast was delicious, I have never felt so relaxed drinking my morning coffee in the shady alcove. Dubrovnik is a beautiful place to visit, the old town very Cosmopolitan and a joy to visit! Weather was warm without being overbearing and the atmosphere the most chilled I have felt in any holiday. I don't have anything bad to say, I loved Croatia, I loved the Bokun guesthouse, I loved the people, the food, the homemade cocktails by the pool. Thank you Toni, thanks guys, it was truly the most idyllic stay

A welcome oasis in a busy city.

Bokun guesthouse is an idyllic retreat just 50m from Gruz harbour in Dubrovnik. It's a family run enterprise headed up by Toni, who offers a great welcome and for whom nothing is any trouble. The accommodation is a 500 year old building offering spotlessly clean and comfortable rooms. We elected for the bed and breakfast option, the latter being a superb selection of breakfast goodies. In addition to Toni, his son occupies a spot around the lovely pool, offering cocktails for a few hours a day. The guesthouse nestles in a beautiful garden with flowers, kiwi fruit, grapes, and a host if other fruits growing. On arrival Toni sits with each guest and annotates a map, including bus numbers, to help navigate the local area. The harbour area is very busy but still very clean, tidy and offering some good eateries. A walk of 30 or so minutes takes you to Lapad, which has a wonderful pedestrianised area with many and varied dining opportunities. All of the Bokun family are friendly and helpful and we could not leave a review without a mention for the housekeeper Magdelena who offers a wonderful smile and can't do enough to help make the holiday a real treat. Dubrovnik old town is within walking distance, but there are plenty of good buses running back and forth. If you are aiming to visit the many attractions it's worth considering the Dubrovnik pass which a €40 per person gets you entry to most areas and includes your bus fare. There are plenty of supermarkets close by along with great bakeries and a fruit and veg market daily where we bought bread, cheese and fruit to have an evening meal in the grounds of the guesthouse. It's worth noting too that Toni makes his own red and white wines and I found the red to be very nice indeed, I didn't try the white but I suspect it's equally good.
Overall, Toni and his team made our first visit to Croatia a very memorable one, thankyou Toni.

Perfect

We got back yesterday and I felt I should write this. When you arrive you feel like you’ve found the Secret Garden. You walk up a short alley and through a gate and you’re transported into a beautiful garden with lots of flowers and vegetables. I can’t list the produce growing because there is so much. Toni meets and greets everyone and is a fountain of local knowledge and a real friendly guy. He gives you helpful advice, but doesn’t try to sell you anything. We felt we could ask him if we needed any info. He’s not on his own and Rosie (Toni’s wife) and Magdelana are always smilie and friendly. We were in room 6 and it was lovely and clean, double bed, fridge, tv, air con, en suite and plenty of hanging space for our clothes. Our window opened onto a green sea of kiwi and grape vine. The breakfast isn’t as extensive as some you come across, but I thought there was ample. Cereals, fruits, yoghurts, cakes, bread, croissants, ham and cheese, things from the garden plus juices, tea and coffee. Eggs and sausages. As well as the garden there is a lovely pool area with beds, kept very clean like everywhere else. There is a very friendly feel and we shared breakfast tables with other guests, not because of lack of space but because you wanted to. We caught up with the other guests and we swapped info on where we’d been and how we got there etc. a quick note on the other guests, many are return customers which is a good sign. We spoke with Toni about a boat trip and he put a notice up to see if anyone else was interested. It ended with 12 of us going and it was a great day. The location is great and within walking distance to the Old City Walls (better to bus it) and to Lapad (nice restaurants) it’s worth walking around both sides of the harbour to discover what’s on offer. Overall I would recommend staying here but it’s not for younger single people who want to party all night.

excellent guesthouse

we stayed here for 10 nights and would have been happy to stay for longer. Tony came to meet us at the transfer drop off point. When we arrived at Bokun Guesthouse we were thrilled with what we saw. The garden, where you sit and have breakfast or just relax were beautiful. Tony gave us a map of the area and talked us through things like restaurants close by (but certainly wasn't pushy) which buses to take etc. He then showed us to our apartment, it was spotless, there was ample storage for clothes and looked as though it had recently been renovated. It was heated/air con whichever was suitable for the temperature. It was lovely having a veranda to sit out on which we shared with one other apartment with a view of the harbour. The pool area was great with plenty of sun beds to use. Breakfast was plentiful, choice of cereals, the fresh fruit every morning was delicious, (especially the cherries) , there was cooked food as well as cheeses and cold meats, breads, pastries, cakes, yoghurts, juices, teas and coffee, so much choice. Tony and his wife Rosie were very pleasant, welcoming, and helpful and always had time to chat and give advise. Magdelana the housekeeper was friendly and always smiley and made sure we had everything topped up at breakfast and anything we needed in our room which she kept spotless. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them. We can't praise this amazing guesthouse enough. Fantastic.
Bokun is in a quiet area near the harbour but close to supermarkets, restaurants and the farmers market (also very good for cherries) only a short bus ride to the Old Town, lovely walks round the peninsula. Thank you to all of you and for a wonderful stay.
We cannot understand the negative review.
