Great place, very welcoming!

Excellent welcome in this family who takes great care of you.
The food is rich and good. The room is heated 24/7.
The father (Sonam) is very interested in animals and takes great photos of them.

₹5000 for This? A Complete Scam in the Name of a Homestay

They quite literally handed us a “room” that felt like it was set up in the middle of a street, and had the audacity to charge ₹7000 for it. It was not just disappointing—it was outright shocking.
The so-called room didn’t even meet the most basic expectations of accommodation. There were no proper walls, no functional washroom, no adequate lighting, and not even curtains for privacy. It felt less like a stay and more like being stranded in an unfinished, makeshift space.
To make matters worse, the food was extremely substandard, adding to an already frustrating experience.
This was not a homestay—it felt like a blatant attempt to exploit unsuspecting travellers under the guise of hospitality. The entire experience was highly unprofessional and deeply disappointing.

A great place to stay in a remote location

This legendary place does not need any introduction. We stayed here for two nights (10th and 11th Jun’23) while we were on our Ladakh trip. This was our base for visiting the mighty Umlingla. This place has all the necessary facilities in such a remote location. The food is basic but good. The linen and the room were very clean. It would not be appropriate to nit pick upon things in such the remote place. The owners are great and try to cater to our necessary needs. Though a lot of new guest houses / hotels have come up in Hanle but this place has its own legacy.

Oldest Homestay at Hanle with very basic facilities

Padma Homestay at Hanle is the most preferred overnight stay place at Hanle and we had stayed here in 2015 when the owner had only 2 rooms to offer with Chinese blankets and lanterns as the place did not have electricity. We decided to revisit the place in 2023 Sept on our way to Umling La (the highest Motorable Place at 19100 ft). The place is managed by the brother of the owner now who are extremely humble people. The day we arrived at Hanle, we saw a large bike group of more than 110 bikers are in Hanle along with usual trekkers and smaller bike groups. Hanle was overflowing with travelers and people have to sleep in whatever place they could manage. Padma has become a bit larger with 8 to 10 rooms to offer but that day they allowed large number of bikers to sleep in the dinning area with well provided blankets to protect from cold. The gesture is really excellent. The place is just basic one and they provide hot water. The breakfast and dinner was simple and they packed our breakfast as we wanted to start for Umling La at 7AM. They also secretly provided eggs for our dinner as we could not eat other stuffs provided for dinner (potato being the main component). The stay was comfortable with basic facilities at this remote place. What we liked most is simplicity of the people.

Good stay

o At a remote location like Hanle, which has such hostile terrain, expectations are typically minimal. And Padma Homestays ticks all the boxes
o Cozy, small, clean and hygienic place. Round the clock availability of hot drinking water and tea/ coffee is plus
o Owner Mrs.Padma runs the show here, she oversees the reservations, rooms upkeep alonwith her able team of two guys, cooks food as well. Food is average, however served fresh and hot
o The owner comes across arrogant and rude, but guess we were willing to live with this, esp given other things where in place and there are really very few options at Hanle
