A Road Trip to Remember: Delhi to Sattal
A family road trip is always a special experience, when the entire family comes together for a road trip, it’s not just about the destination but also the joy of traveling together. Traveling in a convoy of three cars, our extended family – grandparents, parents, kids, and cousins – set off a bit late but still brimming with excitement. Our journey from Delhi to Sattal was a perfect blend of scenic drives, hearty meals, laughter, and memorable moments. The roads were smooth, the weather pleasant, and the promise of adventure kept the spirits high.
The smooth highways made for an enjoyable ride, with playlists, car games, and lively banter keeping the mood upbeat. About two hours into the journey, we stopped at Rajaji Haveli in Gajraula for breakfast. This charming eatery, with its haveli-style architecture, offered a delicious spread of parathas, pakoras, and steaming cups of chai and coffee. The courtyard provided a lovely spot to stretch our legs and click family photos before we hit the road again.
As we left the bustling highways behind, the landscape transformed into lush green hills and winding roads. As we crossed into Uttarakhand, the landscape transformed dramatically. The highways gave way to winding mountain roads flanked by verdant green hills. Mist hovered over the treetops, and the cool mountain breeze was invigorating. Each turn revealed breathtaking views and the scenic beauty was a treat for the eyes – towering trees, misty horizons, and occasional glimpses of mountain streams.
Arriving at YMCA Camp Sattal felt like stepping into a serene haven. Nestled amidst dense forests and overlooking the tranquil and serene Sattal Lake, the camp was the ideal retreat. Despite the persistent rain during our first day and a half, the camp’s charm and the staff’s warmth kept our spirits high. The accommodations ranged from cozy cottages to well-maintained tents, blending comfort with a rustic charm and outdoorsy vibe.
The staff lead by Aryan and assisted by Rohit, Kailash and a few more welcomed us warmly, ensuring our large group settled in seamlessly.
Evenings were magical, we gathered under a sheltered area due to the persistent rain, sharing stories, singing old family favorites, and enjoying freshly prepared snacks. The rain only added to the adventure.
The camp’s kitchen served delicious, home-style meals that catered to every palate – from piping hot vegetables to hearty chicken curries and freshly baked bread. The meals throughout our stay were a delightful surprise – hearty, flavourful, and prepared with love.
When the rain subsided, we ventured out to explore Sattal’s beauty. The calm lake was perfect for boating and kayaking, however we did not try that. Around Sattal, we discovered quaint little cafes serving local delicacies and artisanal coffee. One charming spot, The iHeart Café, stood out for its views and delectable chocolate cake and coffee.
Back at the camp, we indulged in more activities – forest walks, nature watching, and simply soaking in the serene environment.
During the day, we explored the natural beauty around the camp. Some of us went hiking, crossing the pristine lake and onto the old Christian Ashram established in 1860. We also took peaceful walk through the forest trail to an open-air chapel on the shores of a beautiful lake. The kids loved the hikes, and even the rain couldn’t dampen their enthusiasm for adventure. Nature trails offered an immersive experience in the lush surroundings of YMCA camp.
The last evening was the highlight of our stay. The YMCA team organized a bonfire near our huts. The family gathered around the crackling fire, shared laughter, sang songs, and indulged in delicious snacks prepared by the camp’s talented kitchen staff.
This trip was not just about exploring a destination but about celebrating family togetherness in the lap of nature. YMCA Camp Sattal, with its good facilities, delightful food, and caring staff, made our stay unforgettable. Sattal’s charm, complemented by its quaint cafes and serene vistas, offered the perfect retreat from city life.
As we drove back to Delhi, the cars were quieter, but our hearts were full, already planning our next family getaway. Sattal had given us memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Best Place away from crowd on back of Sattal lake
Best place for relaxing and enjoy with your family. It is on bank of Sattal lake. Lot of greenery, Open ground to play. you have options to stay like Hotel rooms, Swiss tents with attached bathrooms, cottages and tent house.

Back to School Days...
Was here recently with few of my office colleagues for a review meet . We booked 3 Safari Tents which has 5 beds to accommodate along with a attached bathroom. With all basic amenities provided, the tents were spacious & well maintained. With all the tents facing the lake, the view was simply wonderful and will keep mesmerizing me for many years to come.
The location is perfect & the ambience is great. This is a very peaceful location away from hustle, bustle & thinking horns. If you are looking for absolute peace of mind, this is the place to be. The best part was that of the mess which serves all three meals reminded us all of our old school days. Mr. NOEL who is the incharge of keeping this property is a gentleman & allowed us to use their meeting hall for few hours without any costs.
We did Kayaking, River crossing, ATB Rides & Jungle Walk and our team was thrilled to experience it.
Overall a wonderful experience in the lap of mother nature.

"Best Place for bird watcher's"
Solo Ride is my approach towards traveling, this adventure filled thrill in life is something everyone should try atleast once. I try my best to travel on my bike across boundaries and riding solo makes you realize what a beautiful relationship a man has with his machine.
It makes you independent, self oriented, makes you ready to accept challenges, take few brave decisions and teach you a way of life which includes respecting your surroundings, nature, people you meet, traditions you come across and even the machine you are riding.
Sattal is the best place for bird lovers, watchers & photographers. It was around 350 kms apart from ghaziabad via rampur, rudrapur, haldwani route. But take another shorter route from ghaziabad is moradabad, ramnagar , kashipur & kaladhungi is it around 30kms shorter than haldwani route. While reach the destination & short research found that YMCA is the cheap & best place to stay. Rooms are clean & big. Very peaceful place for solo riders & family. I have seen number of bird species within 2 hours may be not possible at another place in india. sharing my clicks just se the beauty.

Lake Side & Serene
Lake Side & Serene. I must say its a pleasant and comfortable space for family and Kids anytime. I have been here twice for Birding and found very comfortable with all the essentials required like enough charging points, very clean washrooms, spacious tents..what else. To maintain the tranquillity of the place management must avoid noise making guest in this property strictly. I had faced similar issue once but Management was very responsive and prompt to address it. I recommend
