A short warm stay!

We stayed at Lime Villa overnight with our two dogs during our journey from Delhi to Kolkata. We reached late in the night after a tiring whole day drive from Delhi and were immediately touched by the warm that the place exuded. We had not asked for the dinner to be prepared beforehand however, Reeta was helpful enough to fix up a quick meal for us.
The biggest USP is the location of the place! Our dogs thoroughly enjoyed the chilly foggy morning next to the Ganges.
I would recommend this place to anyone taking the drive from Delhi to Kolkata for a simple hassle less overnight stay with the added luxury of waking up literally on the banks of the GANGES!

Not a stress free stay

It saddens me to write my first negative airbnb review, but this stay was a huge disappointment. Let me preface this with the statement that this was not my first time in India, or my first city on this visit, so I was well in line with my expectations. This property should be avoided by any female travelers without a male in the group, or anyone with any other safety concerns. I am a female, who was meeting my female friend in Varansi to go sightseeing and experience Holi. I messaged a few different Airbnb options, and found Reeta to be the best at creating a safe plan for us with. We discussed airport transportation, tours and the actual Holi festival. I booked the Airbnb with Reeta and we spoke a few times before I arrived. My friend and I were to land, from different cities, at almost the same time and would take the transportation arranged together. Five days prior to this my flight got cancelled and I had to book a different one. I messaged Reeta to let her know and gave her my updated flight information. She confirmed the new information with the exact words, "Ok I will arrange both pick ups. You need not worry." I arrived at the airport in the morning and when I went outside, my ride was not there! She had forgotten to change the pick up!! As a single female in a new Indian city, I was very upset since she had confirmed the details with me. I was stuck at the airport, alone, with no ride. I had to turn on my data to try and reach her from the airport (750 rupee cost to me). I finally was able to get a different driver to call her to find out where my ride was. After it was confirmed that he was not coming, she had me go with some stranger to get to her place, an hour and a half from the airport. This was exactly what I was trying to avoid! And she still charged me for an airport parking fee, who was parking, not my ride?! My friend's driver, that evening, had no idea where the guest house was and my friend was stuck in his back seat as he played trial and error with locations. When I got there I told her it was my friend's birthday the following day and she asked if I'd like her to order a birthday cake. I said yes and said she could pick the flavor. That night she suggest I go to the Aarti to watch a ceremony. I paid a tuk tuk driver to take me there, stay with me and bring me back. Reeta asked me what kind of food the rickshaw driver should take me for, I requested Indian. The driver took me to a Chinese restaurant and when I objected, he said it was Indian. Sorry, but I didn't come to India for chow mein, I wanted to enjoy the local food. The following day we had a tour booked with a guide that she had set up for us. The guide spent the whole day driving in circles and showing us very little (GPS is a lovely thing), being fairly uninformative and ripping us off. First took us to a museum. We arrived stortly after 9 to find out that it didn't open until 10. We had to wait around until it opened and when he took us inside to pay to see it, he informed us that it was an armory museum and housed old guns. Wouldn't you ask two females if they want to wait almost an hour to see old guns? He took us to three temples that he claimed were closed at the time, even though we clearly saw people in one. It was very poor planning on his part and it was hard to keep track of what part of the mid afternoon temples closed at since it kept changing to coincide with a bracket around when we arrived. He also didn't tell us that we would need our passports (something you usually leave locked up) to get into the Golden Temple until lunch time, when it was way too late to go back and get them. Luckily a LICENSED tour guide had given me that tip at the Aarti the night before. We also needed to go to an international ATM to withdraw money and he refused to take us to one, he was only interested in herding us into his friends' shops. In the evening he took us to the same ceremony Reeta had suggested I pay her friend to drive me into town to see the night before. Before the ceremony he suggested a boat ride. Because I had been there the night before and done the ride, I knew what it should cost. He tried to charge us 4.5 times that!! We said we would find our own boat and then head to the ceremony, and that was the last we saw of him for 2.5 hours!! We had to find wifi and call Reeta on WhatsApp to make sure we had a way to get home. And this was on my friend's birthday!! We finally got back and I excused myself to go get my friend's cake and try to turn the day around. I knocked in Reeta's door and asked for the cake. She said, "Cake?" And I reminded her of the cake she offered to get. She admitted that she had FORGOTTEN TO ORDER IT!!! She was the one who offered to get it in the first place! I got quite upset because after a crappy day at the hands of her tour guide, this was icing on the no cake. Reeta also said she would get a guide for the evening of Holi, but since the colors are during the day, that didn't do any good and she didn't get one for the day. After we left on the day of Holi she posted signs for the other 2 guests saying leaving the property wasn't advised. Why didn't you post those while we sat in that spot eating breakfast? And if it wasn't advised, why were you going to take our money and get us a guide?? Regardless, we went into town and had a fantastic time at the Palace on the Ganges (I wrote a 5 star review regarding the care they took with us, non guests, on the day of Holi. They kept us safe and let us cool off inside, go there instead). Furthermore, I understand that this location is on the banks of the Ganges, but there is no pest control practices. My friend, as well as one of the other guests, were covered in painful mosquito bites. For the price they charge, they could do something, even a bat house. Also, watch our for the fire ants. The wifi here is pretty crappy, which wasn't a big deal to us until one of my parents ended up in the hospital and I was left without cell reception or wifi to reach my family. The location is nice to see the river, but what you save on booking here, you make up for in rickshaw rides, airport taxis and in so many other unpleasant ways. I'd avoid this place and stay somewhere else.

A winner fighting with time . .

I stayed in Lime villa purely for River Ganga view and for a location away from the otherwise very over crowded and not so clean surroundings in main city. . I was not dis appointed on both these counts. .
The property is very well located on The bank of the Ganga River although around 6 to 7 kms away from the Old city. But you are hardly 5 to 10 minuets away by a auto or cab which is just a call away. Full marks for the Location. .
The host Mrs Reeta was just wonderful with very prompt replies during the booking and during our stay. She is a great host and makes you feel at home. The food was always served extremely hot & fresh. We were vegetarians and we were treated with excellent Indian food with variety & yummy taste. . And most importantly everything was served on dot precisely as requested by us. This is seer professionalism of the host . . Mrs. Reeta will not disappoint any guest on hospitality count. .
Only thing which was a bit disappointing was the overall house keeping of the property. It could be far better with some more attention and care. . There was dust in the room specially below the TV and the floor. Tea maker was not so clean and T V in our room was placed in a very inconsistent place. .
I would like to believe these are man power issues and Reeta ji would surly vet come these small but very important issues. . She must be aware that with such great location and all the great hospitality that she offers , her place is sure a winner . . I would visit her place again for the views for sure . .
