Worst night ever!
When we first arrived there was no check-in desk, just three men sitting on plastic chairs staring at us, in what looked like an empty building. We were shown to our room and made to pay on arrival, the owner tried to convince us we had to pay more than what was agreed when we reserved the room online.
The room was full of flies, the toilet didn't flush and we had no sheets on our bed. Deciding we didn't want to sleep on the filthy bare mattress, we asked for some and each got one, leaving us to sleep on the bed cover which was covered in brown stains, and of course we had to make the beds ourselves.
We could hear all the traffic and trains going past every 10 minutes in this supposedly peaceful and soundproofed room, and were woken up at 4.30am by what sounded like half of India running up and down the hallway shouting, screaming and knocking on our door. We finally managed to fall back to sleep an hour and a half later when the racket subsided.
However we were woken up once again when the shouting and stomping started at 9am. Safe to say we were left very confused at what was happening!
When the manager came to check us out in the morning, we asked him what all the noise was about and he walked away and ignored us. He came back with the book that we had to sign, so we asked him once again and told him what a terrible night we'd had. He decided to tell us instead when the check out time was. He obviously knew what had been happening and didn't care about our experience, as he didn't bother to give an explanation or even an apology.
I strongly recommend that if you choose to stay in Sarnath overnight that you do not stay here! The manager was rude and disrespectful, a very poorly run guest house!
