Gets the job done
Stayed in two rooms, it is a bit outdated but it gets the job done for a short night and breakfast.

During dinner, someone entered our room and stole cash. The same thing happened to two other rooms in our travel group, so this was clearly not an isolated incident.
The following morning, someone entered our room again, apparently looking for more money. When they found none, they went through our belongings and moved everything around, including our passports.
We immediately reported the incidents to the hotel staff, but their only response was that we had “no proof.” There was no real concern, no investigation, and no attempt to help or reassure us.
The most basic expectation when staying at a hotel is that your room and personal belongings are safe. Unfortunately, we did not feel safe at all during our stay. After our experience, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone.

Sheets cover with weird stains the same chair, no heating and 12° in the room. The smell in the room is without the old mold and enclosed. Anyway, it's not very envious. The view made I think a good part of the reputation of the hotel.
The bathroom clearly I had trouble going to shower. The shower has no curtain or delimitation the whole seems in construction.
The food is good. The service leaves much to be desired. Employees wait to be called and receive requests. If you do not go to meet them nothing happens.
The morning buffet is rather good and hearty with an international and regional choice. I strongly advise the specialties of the regions the rest did not look appetizing even if I did not test.
The bathroom clearly I had trouble going to shower. The shower has no curtain or delimitation the whole seems in construction.
The food is good. The service leaves much to be desired. Employees wait to be called and receive requests. If you do not go to meet them nothing happens.

Frozen in Time – and in Reality at Lava Lodge Bromo
We are currently staying at Lava Lodge in Bromo, and unfortunately this has been a deeply disappointing experience.
It was already a red flag upon arrival that the receptionist was wearing a winter jacket indoors. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a very accurate preview of what awaited us.
The rooms are extremely run-down and feel as if they have not been renovated since the 1970s. The design is outdated, the furniture and curtains are worn and neglected, and overall the room feels poorly maintained and uncared for.
The extra bed provided was nothing more than a thin mattress placed directly on the floor. The room was freezing cold, so much so that even with two blankets we were still shivering. As a result, we barely slept at all during the night.
The suspended ceiling is broken, and instead of a proper ceiling lamp there is just a single exposed light bulb.
In the dining area, there is no heating at all, which is almost ironic given that the TV is displaying a looping image of a blazing fireplace. One could say the hotel has a sense of humor — unfortunately, warmth is only available virtually.
Breakfast was well below average: the selection was very limited and poor, and the complimentary coffee was barely drinkable. The only positive aspect of the entire stay was dinner, where the beef dish was actually good.
Overall, the accommodation is severely outdated, uncomfortable, and does not meet even basic expectations. This stay was not worth the price paid and fell far short of acceptable standards.

Incredible Views, Basic Comfort – Ideal Base for Bromo, with a Few Tips
We stayed at Lava View Lodge during our visit to Mount Bromo, and while the accommodation is very basic (as is the case with most lodges in the area), the location and views make it worthwhile – with the right expectations.
The location is definitely the highlight. You’re right on the edge of the Bromo crater area, and the view from the terrace or even the garden is truly breathtaking . However, be aware: it gets extremely crowded around sunrise, as pretty much everyone staying in the area flocks here to catch that iconic view.
The rooms are very basic and not particularly clean. The bathroom, in particular, could use some attention – the shower was either scalding hot or freezing cold, with no real in-between. But honestly, you don’t come here for luxury. It’s all about the experience and proximity to the volcano.
The restaurant food was mediocre – not terrible, but nothing to write home about. That said, they serve cold Bintang, which helps after a long dusty hike or jeep ride.
A tip for future visitors: If you can, visit Mount Bromo itself before checking into the hotel – preferably in the late afternoon. Most tourists go right after sunrise, so you’ll have the crater and surrounding area almost to yourself. It’s a magical experience without the crowds.
Also, bring warm clothes – temperatures drop significantly, especially before sunrise. If you didn’t pack for the cold, don’t worry: local vendors walk around the lodge selling hats, gloves, scarves, and even blankets.
Final thoughts: Lava View Lodge is not about comfort, it’s about location. Go with the right expectations and you’ll have a memorable stay. The views alone are worth it.
