Very inhospitable
Absolutely awful experience. The place was filthy in the spa, the food awful in the taverna and our holiday was the worst for choosing Macreddin Village. Hair all in the spa and hairdryer area!!!

Disney Hotel, don’t go
Setting aside that we have been spoilt with the other great hotels on our trip to Ireland, this hotel is really a no go for the price you pay:
- the hotel is seriously outdated, especially the rooms. We had a Junior Suite with a shower curtain that ringfences you like in a horror movie.
- in our room the heating was constantly on without being able to turn it off, as we also had the AC on or our windows open. After requesting the reception, we never got a reply why and how to adjust this.
- The gravel along the hotel is irritating, noise wise and also because I had to get all the stones from under my shows ten times a Day
- breakfast restaurant looked like a breakfast at a Disney Hotel. All around mass, always the same goods and pre-prepared.
- restaurants were OK and were doing their utmost best to assist, however that also meant that we were being served by six different waiters, all in a rush and without any rest.

Overpriced and neglected
2/5 – Looks great in photos, fails in reality
We stayed two nights in a suite that looks impressive in the hotel’s promotional photos, but the reality does not live up to the image.
Dinner at the “fine dining” restaurant at the first night was a major disappointment. The halibut was completely overcooked—dry, tough, and frankly unacceptable at any level, let alone fine dining.
The problems continued the next day. The room was stocked with a single 10ml bottle of shampoo for two people—something that is not only impractical but also out of step with current EU laws.
At breakfast, even the basics were mishandled: poached eggs arrived overcooked to a rubbery, inedible consistency.
We asked reception to replenish the toiletries before heading out. Returning later that day, nothing had been done—still just one tiny bottle. Only after complaining again was this finally addressed.
To top it off, the toilet broke during our stay. The water wouldn’t stop running and it could no longer be flushed properly. A staff member applied a temporary fix by removing the flush button so it could be used at all. This is not something guests should encounter in a hotel of this supposed standard.
Overall, this stay reflects inattentive and/or inexperienced staff and a clear lack of proper maintenance and financing. The gap between presentation and reality is significant. Definitely not what you expect at this level.
We would never return or recommend this.

Big drop in standards
Having stayed here several times I was surprised and very disappointed at how far standards have fallen here.
Starting with the constant drone of a large diesel cherry picker in the garden for my two days. Peace and calm shattered! Almost everything looked tired and in need of some serious tlc. The staff were very friendly but not very customer oriented.
The breakfast was the most disappointing. Having eaten hundreds of hotel breakfasts in the last 50 years I had always placed Macreddins as the best I’ve eaten. Not any more, it was bland and tasteless and slow.
On the plus side, the spa was very nice, as was the bar food and the pizza.
I was surprised at how standards have fallen here and it’s not worth its expensive prices any more!

Tired and lacking attention to detail.
Initially I was impressed with the beautiful location, but sadly that’s where the positive experience ended. Firstly, we had to wait to check in while the single person on the desk chatted to the people in front of us, without even acknowledging we were there. Secondly, despite the rooms being booked at the same time and choosing the same standard, our rooms were different standards. I asked to be moved as I was immediately above reception and I could hear people walking on the crunchy gravel outside. It was hot and there is no air con so I had no choice but to leave my windows open. I was moved a few rooms up, to be woken at 4:30 am by someone walking up and down the gravel. On the second night, it was more gravel walking, more people talking outside late at night and screaming kids running up and down the corridor. It should be a peaceful place, but it isn’t. Breakfast doesn’t start until 7 am which isn’t much use for people on business and when we did go, I wasn’t served what I asked for. The dining room was very dark, as was the bedroom, which is also very tired looking. The bed was comfortable and the people seemed nice but when looking at reviews on TripAdvisor I can see that maybe it’s not what it was. Food options are very limited unless you want dinner at the Italian restaurant. I have to say I would not return. It lacks attention to detail and the customer experience. Get rid of the gravel - it’s awful, I had to keep picking it out of the car and the soils of my shoes.
