A beautiful Stay
What a beautiful stay at Mount Congrieve was had recently. From the stepped in history courtyard suite stay, wonderful guided garden tour, to delicious locally sourced food in its cafe, a lovely shopping experience @ Foxford and a cycle on the greenway, there is something for everyone. Staff so helpful and friendly, it is well worth the visit. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant.

Pretty cabins and wonderful garden access, but not quite worth the price
We stayed in the Hawthorn cabin for two nights in July. Booking directly through the Mount Congreve website on an Early Bird offer was €675 for two nights but I got a slightly better rate on Booking.com.
The cabins are very pretty and there is a lot to like, particularly the access to the gardens, but at this price point we expected the overall experience to feel a little more polished.
The absolute highlight was having Mount Congreve Gardens to ourselves in the evenings. Being able to wander around once the day visitors had gone was genuinely lovely and probably the most memorable part of our stay.
The cabin itself is cosy, the bed is very comfortable and the shower is good. The robes were a nice touch, as were the eggs, bread and milk left for us. A small coffee table would probably be more useful for guests in the living area than the large chest currently there.
Check-in could be smoother. We followed the instructions emailed to us and parked in the main car park and walked up to the house, only to be told to drive back down towards the cabins. For accommodation like this, it would be much easier to receive clear directions in advance, together with the cabin name and lockbox code.
Unfortunately, the hot tub wasn't hot enough to use by 10pm on our first night. As hot tub use is limited to between 8am and 10pm, that effectively meant losing the first evening's use. Some of the exterior panels on the hot tub were also coming away and it generally felt as though the outdoor area could do with a spruce-up.
There is almost constant road noise. Mount Congreve does flag this on the website and in the pre-arrival information. But it's worth mentioning here, as the traffic noise really does interrupt what would otherwise be a beautiful atmosphere, particularly with all the birdsong around the cabins.
We had lunch at the Stable Yard and the food and service was fine. There's a Tesco nearby for essentials, and Everett's in Waterford City was fantastic for lunch and well worth a visit.
Overall, the evening access to the gardens is very special, and the cabin itself is pretty, well-designed and comfortable. But a smoother arrival, better maintenance of the hot tub and outdoor area, and perhaps breakfast or a little more included would make the stay feel more in keeping with the premium price.

Something different
The grounds are beautiful and immaculately kept. The eco cabins are a lovely novelty but far too small and tight for anything longer than 2 nights. The biggest disappointment was they are next to a busy road, so you hear all the traffic passing especially in the morning. The lack of signage is unbelievable. We got trapped in the garden for hours after hours access for staying on site. We had a map but it was useless. Had to climb a very high fence with a 6 year old and I was only 2 days after a medical procedure. It really lacks customer support. We did ask the nice lady in the foxford store how we get out after hours and she said she was working here 11 months and had no idea.

Our Own Little Corner of Middle-Earth
If you've ever wanted to step out of the everyday and into something a little magical, the Eco Forest Cabins at Mount Congreve Gardens are well worth seeking out.
Among the cabins available, the Fern Cabin offers the most privacy — a nice touch if you're after a retreat for two. The setting has a distinct hobbit quality to it: low, earthy, surrounded by lush bushes and greenery that give it a snug, tucked-away feeling without being deep in the wilderness. Cosy rather than remote, which — honestly — suited us just fine.
The comforts more than deliver. The bed is wonderfully comfortable, the cabin itself is warm and inviting, and then there's the hot tub — which is simply excellent. Fair warning: you may hear the occasional hum of traffic from the road beyond the wall, but once you're settled in with the steam rising around you, it really doesn't take away from the experience. You adapt quickly, and the relaxation wins out.
What lifts this above a typical glamping stay is the access. Free bikes are available for guests, and the cabin sits directly on the Waterford Greenway, so you can be out cycling through beautiful countryside within moments of leaving your door. Best of all, guests enjoy off-hours entry to the Mount Congreve Gardens — wandering those magnificent grounds in the quiet, after the day visitors have gone, is a genuine privilege and one of the real highlights of the stay.

Fantastic couples getaway
We spent two nights in the chalet and had the most wonderful weekend, the staff were so friendly and they had thought of every little detail. The hot tub was amazing too! It felt very private and facilities were excellent. Passes for the gardens and bikes available to use included were great bonuses! Would definitely recommend for a couples weekend.
