Parknasilla GC golf great
We visit a Parknasilla GC golf in Sneem. Nine holes 2735 meters for the men and 2206 for the ladies but par 36.
We are received extremely warmly by An, the female caddymaster. The small clubhouse pass beautiful in the forest area which belongs to a resort. An guides us to hole 1 and gives the tip that we have to play the drive a bit left in the valley so that you can play the green better.
From a high tee, hit the drive into a valley with high walls on either side, then play an approach to an elevated green. Parknasilla has some really cute mini bunkers. Just be careful because you can hardly see those little ones lying around. Parknasilla is a parkland combi forest course. The paths between the holes run through dense forests and bushes, through beautiful nature. The greens are not that big but fine in order, the fairways top and the semi rough very neat at height.
Hole 2 a par-3 of only 110 meters men and 85 meters for the ladies is a beautiful short hole. From a pretty high tee play yes to the green surrounded by tall trees. Oh, great. Hole 3 is a surprising par-5, half blind drive over valley with bushes, second stroke to do and the approach blind to the green when you are somewhat short strongly downhill. Just a challenging beautiful hole. Hole 4 is also a beautiful design with a nice view of inlet and the mountains of peninsula Beara.
Parknasilla a 9 hole course and not a single boring hole. Hole 8 a par-5 SI 4 is a very nice direction to the inlet with fantastic ocean views. From a very high tee with some roll you have a good chance to get close to the green with the second shot because the fairway goes down a second kink at 160 meters.
For twice 9 holes you pay €50 at Parknasilla, and then you have the beautiful course almost to yourself. That's great, isn't it?

Amazing hotel by the sea
We loved this hotel! We visited during a heat wave and it was just amazing. Nice large room, not air con but we had a fan which was much better, nice new bathroom and robes and slippers. We had a back view but could see the sunset!
We ate in both restaurants, loved the fine dining one, great food and the view was amazing. The thermo outdoor pool was just pure bliss, looking out to sea, just bliss.
Just loved the place!

Wow the views are amazing breathtaking in fact
We picked the hotel because it was beside the sea.
A great welcome when we arrived water in the room; lovely big bed and shower.
Staff at breakfast and dinner were super attentive.
Food was plentiful I ate lamb in the restaurant and it was well cooked
As the previous person mentioned there were a lot of kids about but it is the summer holidays so we assumed that anyhow
Sitting on the grounds having a gin and tonic was a real tonic x

Amazing location. Noisy with lots of children
The hotel is in an amazing location which is the reason they can charge so much. Our room was nice but very hot being high up, one window wouldn’t open and the other wouldn’t stay open. We paid for a sea view but we were side on to the sea so not really a sea view. Most hotels would have called it a side view and charged accordingly. As it was hot we needed windows open but this meant, as we were over the bar and patio area, we heard people and children (lots and lots of children) screaming and shouting until after 1030pm. Doors banging continually until 1130. Children also screaming and shouting in the hot tub until after 10pm, even though it was supposed to be closed at 8pm
Breakfast disappointing, coffee out of an automatic machine we had to ask for 3 times and lots of slightly unfriendly staff who couldn’t really understand what we were saying very well.
Overall a lovely location but seriously overpriced.

Peace and calm at Parknasilla
This was our second visit to this peaceful idyll, sans children! Very busy with lots of young families but only noticeably noisy at breakfast times. Staff are diligent and courteous and rooms are kept immaculate. The grounds are beautiful and must take some maintenance to keep them looking so amazing. Kayaking around the inlets and bays is highly recommended although watch out for the changeable weather and swells as the tide turns. The peace and calm is tangible and secluded areas are always locatable. Kenmare is just down the road and is a great place to hang out, Sneem less so with fewer pubs and too many coach parties (touring the Ring of Kerry).We hope to be back soon and maybe retire to a secluded bungalow in a sheltered bay!
