Fine for a short stay
We wnet for Bank Holiday in May.
Paid 120€ for a family room with bathroom. We have 2 school age children.
Towels were not included, tea/coffee not included. Sometimes a BB can be better value if you take this into account. No option of breakfast either.
Large community kitchen.
Everything was in place, all working and reasonably clean. But not cosy or modern.
Not much to do with older kids. Games room open July - August only.
Kids not allowed in sitting room.
Playground geared towards smaller kids.
No bedside lamps, only one large lamp, so you can't really read in bed...we ended up all going to sleep at 9 pm. There was no space to play board games either, so not much to do.
Place looked nicer in photos than reality. Everything old, not much decoration or character.
Welcome was polite, but now warm. Recommendations can be found on info table in window or online, so I was told.
Location is outside Cong, we had to drive to get dinner. Not easy to get dinner eiter, with many pubs not serving food, or booked out, so worth planning ahead.
Walk in Ardnageeha not recommended, severe storm damage, looks like a wasteland, wish I had known. Walks in Cong Woods area accesible from village and castle , they are scenic..
Overall I would not be in a hurry to go back, than again I have no complaints either.
If the weather is on your side (you need luck for that in Connemara) and you spend the day outdoors, it can be a fine place just to sleep.
I can imagine that there is a good vibe in summer with camping, probably nice for kids 3 - 7 years old, or adults.

Peace and a big welcome
I stayed in a B&B room opposite the camping and reception. It's delightfully situated off any noisy rods, yet only a kilometer or two from the village. Jerry and Margaret were like old friends. Breakfast was included in my reservation and I went only for that reason, because the last several B&Bs I've been to were so quiet and isolating over breakfast. But there was a proper Irish welcome at this one. Anybody was welcome to keep their own company, but the room livened up with laughter and sharing of stories and I thought my heart would burst with joy.
My room was spacious and had a wonderful summer-at-the-lake feeling about it that evoked childhood memories of a river where we had a cabin getaway in northern Michigan. There were pictures and memorabilia everywhere from The Quiet Man film. I almost missed breakfast because I was rolling around in ecstasy on the most comfortable mattress I've had in two months traveling around Ireland and I didn't want to get out of bed. Yum! I loved that the shower had plenty of variability in pressure and plenty of hot water! My shower late at night makes or breaks my night of sleep.
PS, despite appearances otherwise, Jerry is really a leprechaun. WHO could possibly resist his smile?!

A magnificent hostel
This is among the cleanest and friendliest hostels I have stayed in, and the total is around 100. Inside and out, the hostel looks as it it has been newly painted and polished. The owner, Gerry, and his wife, and all their staff work very hard to make sure this standard is maintained. The kitchen and dining room are excellent as are the toilets and showers. I could live there for ever!!
The location, just a few minutes from Cong and very close to Loughs Corrib and Mask and the rest of Connemara, make it an ideal place to stay and explore. My fellow guests were of the same opinion.

Bad experience. I do not recommend for Familys with kids.
Price for a family room was cheap, but it is not family friendly. Kitchen are self cating but access was at times not available as place was full of young students.

Online is advertised as family room and family frienly place but in reality not a single day was felt like that. More like student dorms with rude students doing all they want.

Great value budget hostel accomodation.
Good location between Lough Corrib and Lough Mask. Part of a large site providing facilities for camping and caravans. Hostel is modern with good facilities – common kitchen and dining room well equipped, spacious and properly serviced. Lounge available, with showings of The Quiet Man Movie each evening. Room was basic, but clean and comfortable enough. En-suite was clean and functional – good shower. Common washrooms looked modern, clean and properly serviced. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Free WiFi – a bit erratic at times. Good laundry facilities. On-site parking. Excellent value for money at Euro 35 / night for double room.
