old romantic hotel

Lounge bar for lunch
I must say that we have stayed at this hotel several times, even when the restaurant was starred with Paolo Griffa. The rooms are lacking, the service even more so, but the structure retains a certain charm even if it is a bit old. We had lunch in the only service open, the Lounge Bar. And it certainly has nothing to do with a 5-star place, except for the prices. Slow and indifferent service. Mediocre dishes, basic ingredients, and little technique. But it is the wine list where absolute peaks are reached, never seen before. Aside from the few champagnes (which are expensive too), it is in the wine list that it becomes hilarious. 15 wines in total, including whites, rosés, and reds. None for less than 100 euros per bottle. And for bottles that can be found on the market between 15 and 20 euros. Which makes a markup of 5 times. But not even in Mayfair where they reach 4 and a half in the most luxurious restaurants in London. Pure madness. And by the glass from 20 to 40 for equally cheap wines, like the Pinot Noir from St. Eppan. In short, I have never seen a menu like this. What a shame. In my opinion, the entire structure needs serious reconsideration. Then if they are fine with it... but the facts speak for themselves.

Watch theft
We have stayed at this hotel several times, despite the neglect of the premises, the lack of heating in the rooms during the winter period, and the spa being completely destroyed and non-functional.
The location has always been in its favor.
Unfortunately, during our last stay while we were at breakfast, the cleaning service entered the room and a few minutes later, upon our return, we no longer found the watch that had been on the nightstand. We spoke with the hotel manager who treated us like thieves. We have attempted multiple times to contact her again by phone and email for information, but without any response.
A disgrace for this hotel and for a resort town where we grew up for thirty years.
No respect for the customer.
Avoid it.

Elegance and luxury, improveable if desired
Fantastic location, in the middle of the promenade, easy to reach and convenient garage. The common areas are really elegant and beautiful, the staff friendly and considerate.
Notes of merit: Really excellent restaurant, TOP breakfast, escort service with their cars to the lifts, room tidying up in the evening, sky to the TV.
A few drawbacks to improve: a modernized room and bathrooms (given the price can be newer), the SPA (in the Turkish bath the bizzazze detached on the ground and the slight mold on the walls) not to mention the outdoor pool not heated and therefore unusable, I stayed a whole day with the light over the sink electrocuted (reported 2 times to different staff) and in the end it was changed because I removed the bulb and left in plain view in the bathroom.
Overall, however, the hotel is really nice and enjoyable, to return...

It's not the grand royal anymore
I've been several times and every time it's getting worse, it's slowly losing pace with its emblazoned competitors who are nearby..
The location is unbeatable, the champagne shop out as well ...
Reception very young, kind but you can see that they are not very experienced
Bistro with excellent cuisine
Very good breakfast
Rooms a bit dated, courtesy kit not the best and not up to scratch lacked toothbrushes (I had to ask them)
Evening converge not carried out (serious lack)
Sunday night the cocktail bar was all for an event but it ended at 10pm, I went in and asked for a gin and tonic that was refused me because they could not ... even though the place was now empty ..
Bar waiters mumbling with the matre aloud in Neapolitan
Apart from a few I sensed an unprofessional team
In short, average for a 4 star, but from a 5 so emblazoned and with important prices I expect much much much more especially with a structure so dated ..... you can not live only past history ...
