A historic and fascinating location with an essential and no frills style
The farmhouse, adjacent to the bridge of Castruccio, is located in the premises of the former customs and in another building restored with taste and in harmony with the historical context, giving a truly suggestive atmosphere. The rooms are spacious, with private external bathroom, basic furniture and lighting a little 'poor. The main flaw is the high humidity, caused by the river flowing under the bridge, which is clearly perceived and can be uncomfortable.
Apart from that, the location is also ideal for a trip out of town: direct access to the river, darts, a simple volleyball court and several hiking trails in the surroundings. Outside there is a canopy with tables and a wooden kiosk in summer pub style. The kitchen is closed on Mondays, but we had dinner with a magnificent chopping board, served with great kindness by the owner despite the closing time being at 19:30. The second night we had dinner there and I really recommend the tagliata, well cooked and tender, with a side of potatoes. Breakfast is a bit spartan and varies in quality and quantity from day to day.
We took advantage of a last minute offer and found a good value for money.
To reach it you walk about a hundred meters down steep descent, a small route that gradually introduces into the beauty and atmosphere of the place.

Excellent location, food and wines
My husband and I attended the event on August 10, 2024 aperitif dinner 'chalices under the stars".
place is beautiful: surrounded by greenery, with donkey bridge that characterizes the view, along with the Lima stream (which offers a sound background that puts in a state of peace of mind). Had we arrived earlier, we might even have taken a refreshing bath in its clear waters.
There are also rooms, but unfortunately they were already booked, so we can not say anything. Great food, but a note of merit goes to the choice of wines: all delicious and explained simply but passionately by the sommelier. Perfect combinations.
Chopping board of cured meats of own production excellent lard melted in the mouth), venison steak really good, were My Saves. We will be back.

Absolutely Lovely
Charming little agritourismo situated at the bottom of a valley on the River Lima. Le Dogane means customs in English and this used to be the customs point between the kingdoms of Florence and Lucca (the river was the natural boundary between the two kingdoms) There is a beautiful 14th century bridge that arches over the river and is still in perfect condition. The rooms are nice, large and comfortable. The food is great and they serve everything produced from their farm. I would definitely recommend staying here. Its a great place for those who like to hike and explore the wonderful trails in the area. It's the perfect place to relax.

A piece of heaven
We were looking for a place to stay in the Appenine mountains as a base for a little hiking and a place to relax. Wow, did we hit pure gold! Exquisitely renovated old customshouse by a medieval stone bridge crossing the river. The scenery is breathtaking. The river cool and fresh to swim in after a day of hiking. Dinner is prepared from local products from the farm or in the near vicinity. Fantastic food,-cheeses and hams to die for. Professionally and wonderfully run by the young generation, brother and sister, from the farm. This is a place for total peace and quiet, hiking in the beautiful mountains, visiting the small nearby villages by foot, and enjoying a fascinating historical site. A piece of heaven is a very exact description, feeling rested and refreshed after a stay here.

Beautiful location and wonderful home-cooked meals
We stayed here last Sept. and the location is just gorgeous! The room was large with a separate bunk bed for my oldest and room for a baby cot for the little one. It is a very historic location as a former customs house for the two regions in the area, Pistoia and Luccia.
Bubbly Lima river heard outside your window. Outside terrace to eat meals if the weather was nice. Nice paths and trails just past the garden. Small bit of playground equipment and toys for little ones to play with. It was just so nice to stay here!
Simone and his family were so accommodating and welcoming. Actually, the house is located on their family farm. Highlight of the trip was the delicious, hearty, home-cooked Italian food. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all available and all with three courses served with wine or beer and water. Followed afterwards with an expresso or other coffee beverage. They operate as a small, bookable restaurant as well as serving meals to guests. Well worth the trip!
Location is also within an hour's drive of Florence, Pisa, and other small and large cities and towns.
The only thing is to get in and out of the area, you've got to navigate the windy roads up and down through the mountains. Could lead to a bit of motion-sickness for those who are sensitive.
