Hotel in Tuscany

This is a really beautiful hotel. Well worth a visit. Staff are really friendly & helpful. It’s so peaceful & you are surrounded by rolling hills & olive trees. The restaurant is fabulous.

We had booked three rooms for three nights to spend a few days with friends.
Three days before our arrival, the hotel informed us in writing that there would be a scheduled power outage until 3:00 p.m. on the day we arrived. In the same message, they clearly assured us that electricity would definitely be restored by 3:00 p.m. Based on that assurance, we decided to keep our reservation.
We are elderly guests and particularly sensitive to high temperatures. In the middle of July, having air conditioning was therefore essential for our comfort.
Unfortunately, by 8:00 p.m., the power had still not been restored. There was still no air conditioning, making the rooms extremely uncomfortable in the summer heat. We therefore asked to cancel the remainder of our stay.
The hotel manager then gave us his word that our reservation would be fully cancelled and that we would receive a full refund within seven days. We trusted his commitment and left the hotel accordingly.
Now, he has completely changed his position. He only wants to refund the first night and claims that the remaining amount will only be refunded after the electricity company compensates the hotel, which could take months—or even years.
A power outage can happen, and we fully understand that it was beyond the hotel’s control. What is unacceptable is not the outage itself, but the fact that the manager failed to honor the commitment he made to us.
This review is not about the power outage. It is about a manager who made a clear promise to his guests and then refused to keep it. In hospitality, trust and integrity matter just as much as comfort.
For that reason, we unfortunately cannot recommend this hotel.

Your decision to cancel your entire stay on the arrival day was your own choice, following a power outage that was unfortunately beyond the control of our hotel. Prior to your arrival, we promptly shared with you the official information we had received from the electricity distribution company regarding the expected restoration of power.
While we did not consider the circumstances to justify a refund for the entire stay, we understood the inconvenience you experienced and felt it was the right thing to do to immediately refund the first night's stay.
As already communicated privately, should we receive compensation in relation to this event, we will be pleased to share it with you.
We are sorry that our commitment and the effort we made to manage this exceptional situation have not been perceived in the same way.
We sincerely hope to have the opportunity to welcome you to the Certosa di Maggiano in the future and to offer you the genuine hospitality that defines our hotel.

Loved every inch of the property—every corner was beautifully decorated and impeccably manicured. The staffs were extremely helpful and friendly, and I had the best Aperol Spritz of my life here. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Wonderful place

Just an amazingly lovely place to stay. Beautiful, stylish, relaxed, spacious. Great service, friendly and warm. An amazing setting in an old monastery, really nicely done. Lovely big swimming pool and space to hang out without feeling like other people are all over you. Not unduly fancy or over-the-top - the rooms are nice without being amazing - but it’s the sort of place where you don’t hang out in your room because there are so many better places to be. Location is great - you can get a shuttle into Siena but have the peace of being outside it. We spent two days in Siena (although I’ve been many times it still blew me away), and one e-biking around the countryside. I can’t recommend Certosa Di Maggiano highly enough - wonderful place.
