Suite A1 was comfortable, beautiful and designed with smarts and savvy. Mary Louise has talent that sets her apart from all other professional designers. The staff were warm, welcoming, professional, gracious and always available amd eager to assist in every way. We were given house made iced tea and an employee-guided tour of the property before we were introduced to our wonderful rooms. I was never lost and looking for anything, as there was a knowledgeable and gracious employee wherever we were for the entirety of our stay. The bathrooms were incredible, outfitted with double sinks, dual shower heads, perfect water pressure, a luxurious bath tub, plenty of towels and toiletries. There is not much to do or see in Porto Ercole other than a pharmacy, so rent a car in advance of your stay unless you are limited to 3-4 days at Il Pellicano. You won’t want to leave the spectacular landscaping, beautiful pool and beach club and staff that feels like family from the start anyway, and you won’t find a cleaner and better maintained property on earth. The housekeeping is thorough and consistent, and the hotel closes for routine property maintenance and upgrades during off season months. We never saw a dust bunny or leaf floating in the pool, no fresh flowers wilting and never a scrap of litter anywhere at any time. The al fresco dining at Pelligrill is refined and beautiful. The crystal is spotless and the house made sorbet is the best I have ever had. The lobby’s floors are clean and uncrowded with comfortable furnishing and a flood of fresh and fabulous daylight. Awnings protect from overheating and the decor is rustic and lush. Tile floors keep it cool and the welcome you will receive upon your arrival will warm your heart. The prices are high but the experience was well worth it. You will not worry about finding a chair by the pool for sunning and you will never hear other guests or staff members being loud. Areas are never crowded even at the most popular times of day and night, you can enjoy delicious snacks by the pool with a server at your beck and call and if you want to dress up, the staff will happily make a reservation for you at the Michelin starred restaurant. You will not hear, “sorry but it is fully booked,” or “that isn’t possible,” even once for any request you may have. But be reasonable. The beauty of the area is its quiet, natural and under developed Do not expect the on demand provisions you will receive in Manhattan. There is no door dash, and there are no apple stores or dance clubs in Porto Ercole. If you don’t arrive with clothes, there is an amazing boutique, but there is no on or off property Target to buy underwear and you cannot request and receive a rental car on the same day. But you cannot question why you pay high prices and book early when you are at Il Pellicano. There are many reasons why it consistently ranks high on the World’s Top 50 Hotels.
