You pay for the location

I stayed at La'gent Stay Hakodate Ekimae during a three-day holiday weekend, and overall had a very positive experience.
The hotel's biggest strength is its location. It is literally steps from Hakodate Station, making it hard to imagine a more convenient base for exploring the city. Most major attractions are within 2 km, and we had a wonderful view of both the harbor and the station from our room. We were also fortunate to be staying during the Hakodate Port Fireworks Festival and were able to watch the fireworks comfortably from our room instead of fighting the crowds.
The hotel itself is a clean, modern, upper-end business hotel. The room was comfortable and well maintained throughout our stay. The onsen was another highlight. It was clean and relaxing, although I found the water to be extremely hot, making it difficult to soak for very long.
The staff were professional, efficient, and friendly. Every interaction we had—from check-in to handling requests—was positive, and they responded quickly whenever we needed assistance.
There were a few drawbacks. Housekeeping only cleaned our room on the third day, which was somewhat inconvenient since we were traveling with a baby. The biggest frustration, however, was the elevators. With only three elevators serving the hotel, we often spent a long time waiting, and the elevators seemed to stop on nearly every floor during busy periods.
Finally, while I understand I visited during one of the busiest weekends of the year, the room rate felt quite expensive for what was essentially a business hotel. Despite all of its positives, I didn't feel it represented great value at the peak-season price.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would happily return—especially if visiting outside of peak season when the rates are more reasonable.

Station side comfort.

This is my first time using it.
It's a relatively new hotel, so it's beautiful, and the skills of the staff are impressive.
The parking lot is on the opposite side of the station, and there was no ticketing because it was a vehicle number system.
I'm glad it's a convenience store.
When the temperature is cold, I think, why didn't we connect it to the station building?...
The rooms were shower only, but the water pressure was fine.
Hand soap was apparently thin enough to make you think you were adding water to replenish the amount (sweat)

Hotel is located near to Hakodate station & morning market is a short walk away. Room is spacious at 30 sq metres but very basic with hardly any storage space or table/shelf top space. Toilet & bathroom are clean & nice enough. Breakfast is good with seafood rice bowls & a good selection of breakfast items to meet most needs.

Located in a very convenient spot of Hakodate City. Massive access to city tram, railway and buses. Housed next to a mini shopping mall, there are many dining options and if nothing is for you, there is always Lawson - direct access, no need to leave the building! If you are driving, huge carpark in front of the hotel. Hotel is very well maintained, rooms are a good size with very comfortable beds. In-house onsen is great to unwind after a long day out, and with free ice cream. Service - excellent.
