A Luxurious Riverside Retreat in Hakone
Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora was one of the highlights of our Japan trip. From the moment we arrived, the hotel felt luxurious, peaceful, and incredibly relaxing.
Our room was beautiful and featured a private onsen bath overlooking the river. We were lucky enough to visit during cherry blossom season, and waking up to the view of cherry blossom trees lining the river was simply breathtaking. Sitting in the hot spring while listening to the gentle sound of the flowing river was such a memorable experience.
The hotel itself was wonderfully quiet and tranquil. Apart from the gentle rushing of the river outside, there was virtually no noise, making it the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring Hakone.
The restaurant was another highlight of our stay. Every meal was absolutely delicious, and dining there was an experience in itself. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and happy to help, making every visit enjoyable.
Throughout the hotel, the service was exceptional. Every member of staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely eager to assist, making us feel very well looked after.
We also appreciated the complimentary onsite parking, and the location was perfect for leisurely walks along the river while enjoying the beautiful cherry blossoms.
We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay and would not hesitate to return. Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora perfectly combines modern luxury, outstanding hospitality, and a stunning natural setting, making it an unforgettable place to stay.

An amazing stay along the river
This hotel is fantastic and the service was top notch. Our IHG level got us free breakfast every morning and it was amazing. The had a river view and loved the soaking tub and spotting fireflies at night. A short walk across the bridge takes you right to 7/11 and a great casual sushi place that was some of the best sushi we had our whole trip. My son just wanted to eat there each night. Between my 12yr old son and myself we spent $75 each night on sushi. Our most expensive meals in Japan, but definitely a quality difference from some of the casual places we went to in Tokyo and Kyoto. There’s also a nice river path that makes for a great evening walk. The shuttle service was top notch and we were able to get from
Gora and back easily. This saved us money on uber or time on buses.

Dinner breakfast and the guest room open-air bath were the best
Lucky for you. It was the biggest snow day in Kanto. I took a shuttle bus from Odawara Station, and the snowy scenery was amazing from all along Hakone. It will raise the tension of the trip. Once you arrive, wait for check-in in a space connected to all-day dining, bar and lounge. I waited with a good stick of coffee and candy. Board games are near the front desk, perfect for killing time
The rooms are stylish with colorful furniture. The open-air bath is concerned about the bleak buildings on the other side, but the mountain seems to be the main scenery when I soak in the tub. I went through an endless loop of bathing → outdoor bathing while watching the snowscape.
The public bath is thermal spring style for both men and women wearing swimsuits. There is a dry sauna and there is a Jacuzzi and a flowing bath, which is fun.
Breakfast is a very nice selection and quality. Special black vegetable curry, filleted big golden-eyed sea bream and mackerel, salad with Odawara plum dressing and Shonan gold dressing, somen with delicious tzuyu. It is truly a neighborhood breakfast. My daughter liked somen, and she ate four bowls.

A Beautiful and Relaxing Stay in Hakone
Our three-night stay at Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora was exceptional from beginning to end. The service was outstanding, with a team that was highly professional, experienced, and genuinely friendly. It was clear that they were very comfortable assisting leisure travelers from around the world while still maintaining a warm and personal approach.
The hotel’s design is one of its greatest highlights. The décor is beautifully inspired by the local Hakone region, with impressive wood finishes and thoughtful details throughout the property. Everything felt elegant, peaceful, and perfectly suited to the surrounding area.
Our room was amazing, with a great layout and a private outdoor tub on the balcony that our seven-year-old son thoroughly enjoyed. We highly recommend paying extra for a room facing the creek. The sound of the running water was incredibly relaxing whenever we spent time in the room.
The fitness center was top-notch, and the indoor spa area was both beautiful and calming. It was one of the most relaxing spaces we experienced during our trip.
The restaurant was also excellent, with many local dishes and some wonderful fish options that we truly enjoyed. Breakfast was outstanding, both in terms of the quality and variety of the food and the exceptional service from the team.
Transportation was made very easy through the hotel’s complimentary private cars and shuttle services, which were extremely helpful when getting around Hakone.
We also appreciated the seated front desk experience. After traveling for several hours, it was wonderful to sit down during check-in and receive a thoughtful introduction to the hotel’s services and amenities.
Strong leadership is evident throughout the property, from the cleanliness and perfect presentation of the hotel to the training, professionalism, and positive attitude of the team. We were genuinely sad to check out after four wonderful days and would highly recommend Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora to anyone visiting the region.
