The location is great, close to major temples, the castle, and the shopping area. Staff were quite friendly and room was clean. It was a shame that the restaurant was closed due to new year.

Great hotel tucked right in the heart of convenience

A typical local travelers hotel tucked right next to the Kamitoricho shopping street where food options and convenience are abundant. The nearest tram stop is about 300m from the hotel, and the Shinkansen station is about 20mins by tram from the hotel. All major tourist attractions are also within the vicinity.
The hotel has aged over the years but has been very well kept. Rooms are BIG for japanese standards, clean, toilets look very new, and basic amenities like body wash, towels and kettle is provided. Coffee is provided but you would have to walk to the reception to grab a cup. Room is sufficiently insulated and a central heater will keep you warm during winter.
However the partition between the rooms are thin so noise from the next room can be audible - we had a occupant snore so loudly that it was faintly audible in the room. It is also worth noting that the footsteps and slamming doors from the corridor may also be heard via the front door.
Lastly, although some of the staff may not speak English well, they are very helpful and accommodative - just whip out your google translate and have a conversation with them - they will gladly oblige.
