During my recent trip to Japan, I had the pleasure of staying at a hotel that also serves as a wedding venue and from the moment I arrived, the level of service was simply impeccable. The staff were not only gracious and professional, but also went out of their way to assist me at every turn, despite my lack of Japanese language skills. Their warm hospitality left a lasting impression and made me feel truly welcomed and cared for.
Though the room was compact, it was exceptionally clean and thoughtfully arranged. As a solo traveler, I found the space more than sufficient — cozy, comfortable, and a fantastic value for the price. It truly struck the perfect balance between affordability and quality.
A special mention goes to the amenities: the hotel provides a well-stocked amenity station at the reception, where guests can freely pick up whatever they need a detail that reflects the hotel’s attention to guest convenience.
While the location is a little removed from the city center, this wasn’t an issue at all for me, as I had a rental car. The added bonus? Free parking on-site, which made my stay even more convenient and budget-friendly.
Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations in so many ways. With its blend of elegant ambiance, exceptional service, and thoughtful touches, it became a peaceful and comfortable base for my journey — one I would gladly return to and wholeheartedly recommend to fellow travelers.

I stayed at this hotel during my trip to Matsuyama, and the location couldn’t have been better — it’s right in front of Don Quijote, literally a 30-second walk from the entrance. It was super convenient for late-night shopping or grabbing a snack.
The room itself was clean and quiet, offering just enough space for a comfortable solo stay. For families traveling with kids, the room might feel a bit tight, but for solo travelers, it’s perfectly adequate for resting and sleeping.
There’s a self-serve amenity station at the front desk, where guests can freely take what they need — a small but thoughtful detail I really appreciated.
Check-in and check-out are self-service, but the process is simple and clearly explained, even for someone unfamiliar with it.
Breakfast was also included, and while the selection was modest, it was quite decent considering the price.
All in all, it’s a great choice if you’re looking for a budget-friendly, well-located place to stay as a solo traveler in Matsuyama.

Breakfast with a view of Matsuyama Castle

This hotel is located in Sanbancho, Matsuyama, a 6-minute walk from Okaido, in the downtown area.
First, check in... The front desk is the same as Hotel Check-in Matsuyama, and you confirm your reservation there, receive your card key and breakfast voucher, and then pay at the automatic payment machine right next to it (a receipt is also given).
I think the hotel itself is old, but it was pretty clean. (Sanbancho seems to be newer than Check Matsuyama.)
The room was spacious, the bathroom and toilet were normal, the amenities and in-room facilities were normal, and there were disposable slippers.
The bed was also spacious, and the pillow was adjustable in height, which was nice.
I wore pajamas as nightwear.
The large public bath is on the 10th floor, and it seems to draw water from Dogo Onsen. There was a large public bath, an open-air bath, an ouna, and a cold bath.
Breakfast was a buffet, with a decent variety of food, and I enjoyed it while looking at Matsuyama Castle.

Double room

The Double room is so small, you can barely turn around. No room for a 21 or 24 suitcase. Bathroom is very tiny. No closet. Hang jacket on wall.
At $175 a night, it's not worth it!!
Last time for me here!!
Location is good (Sanmbancho is 2nd stop light; turn left; half block across lane by convienent store; but there is no name in English of hotel). It's all Japanese and front desk people cannot speak English

Quirky with character, comfortable, wonderful onsen, excellent location in Okaida area

We really enjoyed this hotel, in fact, we loved it, and our stay in Matsuyama. The hotel itself is run smoothly and efficiently by very friendly and happy staff which seems to be Japanese way. The hotel feels like a slightly 1970s style place, with some upgrading along the way. The room was small as the photo well depicts and was fine by us as we are fairly light travellers, (those extra big suitcases won't fit) but really well equipped for that size, with a washing machine, drying system in the bathroom (loved that!), fridge, kettle. Well done to the hotel for have instructions in English on how to use air con, toto systems and everything. And certainly one of the best hotel onsens I've used, complete with a cold bath to complement the hot one.. Checking in is by the Check Inn Hotel, and access directions on the website are easy to follow.
